WJXY-AM morning host in 1996

I found out about the station's format change to standards too late to hear him on the way to the beach in 1995, but I Heard that great voice on many of the commercials in 1996, along with the best music.

Who was he and whatever happened to him?

Are you thinking of Steve Stewart, aka "Zues"? If so, he is only doing voice over imaging now, you can locate him by going to allaccess.com, and looking under voice imaging. What an awesome voice, I believe he has moved up to doing movie trailers now, such as "Batman" and more.

Thanks. I'll look into that.

There's a Steve Stewart posting on here about Myrtle Beach radio. Is this the same guy?

Nah, different guy. Last I heard, Zeus lived and continues to live in Cheraw...working his 10 hours a week, knocking down 300-500 large annually and golfing the rest of the time. Great guy, mega awesome pipes, dream job. Used to hang out with Jay Lewis (probably still does...haven't spoken with Jay in a few years).
