WJZF 97.1 seeks Portland translator

Here's a story that appeared in the Portland Press Herald:
http://www.pressherald.com/people/cth/live-from-downtown-standish_2011-02-09.html
WJZF has a real radio veteran in its midst with Fred Miller. Miller, 69, began his broadcasting days down in Boston at age 7. He's owned radio stations in the Portland area ."I enjoy it; I'm working on a number of projects for Dave (Patterson), including purchasing the translator so we can be heard in Portland."Could the translator be 104.1? If so 104.1 has a great signal. It currently belongs to WMPG 90.9 which is about to move their transmitter and increase power so they shouldn't need the 104.1 translator.

In reference to the article: I'm no Regan apologist, but wasn't it was President Clinton, not Ronald Regan, who deregulated broadcasting with the Telecommunications Act of 1996?

I hope WJZF watches their finances carefully; Freddie Bear (last known employer: Circuit City) was a bit light-fingered with trade accounts back in the day...

As for 104.1, a far better use of that translator would be to bring W-BACH's intown signal back up to par. 104.7 is a piss-poor substitute for 106.3, and Fred of all people ought to know about THAT signal!

You are correct. Reagan only removed the commercial operator license requirements.

I don't know how 99.9 & 99.3 come in Portland (both are country as the wolf) but last I knew 96.9 was simulcasting the Wolf....that could also flip to W-BACH and it doesn't require any ownership change

Deregulation has been a kind of ongoing thing, with both the Reagan and Clinton administrations involved. (and both Bushes) Even if you're just talking about deregulation of the multiple ownership regulations, both administrations took steps in that direction.
