WJZR is coming back

But...not as it once was.

Per AllAcesss.com, North Coast Radio has sold WJZR/105.9 to WXXI Public Media. WJZR, which was a jazz station before it signed off on July 10th of this year, will be returning as a non-commercial station(format TBD). WJZR joins WXXI-91.5 FM(classical), WXXI-1370 AM(news talk; it also has an FM translator at 107.5)and WRUR-88.5(AAA, which is operated for the University of Rochester)in the WXXI Public Media family.

All its gonna do is simulcast 1370 WXXI which will allow them to discontinue the 107.5 FM translator in due course.

They could put jazz on an HD2 signal and use the translator for that if there's enough public support.

They COULD take that course; 105.9 is listed at 3kW and the transmitter is not far from downtown-which would likely give WXXI better coverage in the metro area than the 107.5 translator does. WXXI-AM is also on its HD2 FM signal.
