WKBF 1270

Someone on Wikipedia reported that one of the two towers for WKBF was recently demolished. Can the other be far behind? Anyone in the area that can confirm this? I guess when the license expires later this year the station will just be quietly deleted.

Nothing has to be on the fcc website if a stations tower has been demolished and theyre not operating, theyre currently silent apparently.

IIRC There is a time limit (I forget how many days) that you can be off the air without filing an STA with the FCC. I know the FCC is letting several stations "slide" on the one year STA rule, but not to even file a STA most likely will get the Commission upset. If they lost their site an engineering STA could be filed. In the past the FCC has been very "understanding" with engineering STAs. They could:

rig up a long wire antenna

use one of the several "shunt" fed systems available that would allow the use of a grounded tower (two way communications or a cell tower)

duplex with an existing AM station.

It has been dark since October 2018. The owner walked away. The property owner took possession of the physical property and tore down the towers and transmitter building earlier this year. It was leasing a translator, which was foreclosed upon and sold to Augustana College. The FCC was never told the stationt went dark but it will soon know, as Augustana relocates the translator antenna to another tower and must show it won't impact the AM's nighttime pattern. Augustana is in the processing of demonstrating that there is no pattern to impact.

Today the 30 day window expires for La Hefa to respond to the FCC with proof that WKBF hasn't been silent. I wonder if the commision has even been able to contact the license holder, much less having them send back a response. Probably will be officially deleted soon.
