WKCX-FM Rome Sold to GA Public Broadcasting

GA Public Broadcasting announced today that WKCX-FM (97.7) Rome has been acquired by GPB. The new Rome GPB station will begin broadcasting this summer at 97.7 FM once the FCC has approved the license transfer.

Obviously, K-98 will be missed up in Rome and surrounding areas. Looks like high school football fans in northwest Georgia will have to turn their dials elsewhere to follow their favorite team. On the other hand, at least the folks in Rome will finallly get public radio, courtesy of GPB.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by radionut987 on 03/08/06 02:33 AM.</FONT></P>

who else will cover football for the area...i know K98 did a good job of it...

Maybe GPB will finally live up to it's "public" name and cover the local football on a non-commercial basis. GPTV does it. Why not radio?

GPB Radio caters to a different audience. After all, public broadcasting is listener/viewer supported, and apparently, the money to have high school football broadcast on GPB Radio doesn't seem to be there. Besides, why pre-empt The Jazz Spot for a high school football game?
