WKDQ Evansville

Is Jason Austin (3-7pm weekdays) leaving 99.5 WKDQ in Evansville? I saw his job posted on tristatehelpwanted.com, but I've never heard him say anything on the air that he's leaving.

Talented kid. I'll bet the Wolf will pick him up.

And what is the deal with 95.3 anyways? Is that still moving into Evansville or not?

And is WSTO spinning a dance track for real? DHT's listen to your heart is their 11th most popular song according to the station's top 20. I pressume it's the ballad version, no way in heck you'd ever hear "thump thump thump" on a Evansville CHR except for mabye Alice Deejay's Better off Alone and I remember that one from the Mix96 days when they had a confused identity crisis.

Dude you have no clue about Evansville radio or the history of WSTO. As former Music director of that station Dance was always a big part of the station, even durring the very Hot AC leaning days of 95-97(pre-Mix). When we flipped to the Mix image of the station dance and electronic became a bigger part of our gold library with The Real McCoy, Culture Beat, Snap!, Mr. President, Amber, Alice DJ, Rockell, Captain Hollywood Project, Sweet Sensation, Alphaville, Eifel 65, among others. Mix96STO was not, and I repeat for the 10 thousandth time programmed as a Hot AC while Sky Phillips was Program Director or while I was MD or assistant MD. It was a very mainstream CHR that played all kinds of music. It was very dayparted though due to ownership and an idiot GSM.

More Mix 96STO Dance tracks

I also forgot we played the FLZ mix of Sonique, as well as dance mixes of Britney Spears, Shania Twain, and other ballads. Not to mention our "Saturday Night Hot Mix Party".

The mid and late 90's were highlighted by a lot of great dance hits from those artists! I miss those days...maybe if today's dance acts could produce better songs, there would be more dance titles on CHR/Pop and the "pure dance" format (in the very few places where it still exists) wouldn't be on its last legs.

Well said as usual Tanim. You know, its funny to think about how DANCE FRIENDLY, Indiana CHRs used to be. You had Wmgi in Terre Haute, WSTO in Evansville, WZPL in Indianapolis, Wbwb Bloomington and Wazy Lafayette, all used to be Dance friendly. But I am with Tanim, their just arent many Dance songs, with crossover appeal right now, But no Chr should be sleeping on DHT record, And im sorry for the stations that chickened out and played the Ballad version (AHEM)----> Wnou.

Re: WKDQ Evansville/and other Evansville thoughts

I landed on 95.3 and got dead air. I've never heard anything on it. I haven't heard that SCC or Regent are interested in it.
