WKFL Bushnell (Update)

Filed on 7/22:

SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY TO REMAIN SILENT IS NEEDED DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE REAL PROPERTY ON WHICH THE STATION'S TRANSMITTER SITE IS LOCATED HAS BEEN FORECLOSED ON BY THE SUCCESSOR IN INTEREST TO THE FORMER OWNER AND THE LICENSEE HAS BEEN LOCKED OUT OF THE PREMISES.

THE LICENSEE IS IN NEGOTIATION WITH THE SUCCESSOR IN INTEREST TO THE FORMER OWNER AND HOPES TO RESOLVE THE THE SITUATION, BUT UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE MATTER IS RESOLVED, THE STATION IS UNABLE TO OPERATE.

The drama continues... ::)

So the original owner who sold the station to Bruce Cox and was never paid has now finalized the foreclosure and locked Cox off of the premises. He is now "in negotiation" with a new owner - good luck with that. Cox has left a long trail of unhappy "investors" including the mortgage holder of WKFL. Who would listen to anything he says at this point? No revenue and an on/off the air history for years is the bottom line here.

This one is heading for the scrap heap because of Bruce Cox. It is a pretty good site for a billboard or two though.

WKFL-AM 1170 is once again off the air although I'm not sure how long it has been silent this time. I also see the 10kw [5kw-CH] upgrade is in the application "pending" stage as opposed to receiving an approved CP status.

After further review, I should have stated WKFL is "still off the air" rather than state it is "once again" off the air.

Foreclosure on the property is complete and Cox has been locked off of the property according to his FCC filing. I would bet he holds the license as long as he can to spite everyone he has ripped off along the way. If there was ever going to a success story at WKFL, it would have happened while he still actually had access to the property where the tower and proposed towers are. A second mortgage holder lost almost $300K and the first mortgage holder got his property back without the license. Just a matter of time before the license is terminated by the FCC - another Bruce Cox debacle to be added to the long list.

How did he ever get this station with seller held financing with his past history? Amazing.

According to the APA filed with the FCC, I believe the total agreed upon selling price was $155,000 with a small down payment with the balance paid over 5-years. I had spoken with Bruce Cox several months ago about options available to save the license; however, he didn't appear to be too interested. I have not verified the date WKFL went silent, so I have no idea how much time remains before the 12-month threshold occurs.

I would be interested in hearing more details on the above mentioned "long list"...

If Cox is not interested in saving the license, then why bother to file for yet another upgrade CP?

When I met with Mr. Cox in May, he didn't appear to be very interested in any of the options I offered. That isn't to say he has no interest in saving the license. I'm sure he has other plans in mind that the rest of us are not privy. This will explain why a new upgrade application was filed.

According to the most recent letter from the FCC regarding WKFL's STA to remain silent, the 12-month threshold occurs at 12:01 AM June 24, 2012.

That sounds about right, I was going to post previously that the last time I heard them on the air, when up that way was around June or July.

Drove by the tower site yesterday, making a trip further north and on the way up, I missed the tower and wondered if maybe it had come down, but on my return trip home, I did indeed see the tower and the small transmitter building on an unpaved road immediately west of I-75 (around or near mile marker 315)........... of course, they were not on the air at that time.

And of course there is the whole WKFL debacle......including foreclosure and eviction.

Has there been a Bruce Cox success story somewhere we are unaware of? I would think so as he is obviously pretty sharp to get all of this financial backing with so little collateral, there would have had to be some success somewhere along the way.

It makes little sense as Bruce is a nice guy in person and had some solid ideas.
