WKGC Panama City tower

I just returned from a short vacation trip to Panama City.

Along the way we passed by the WLTG studios/WDIZ transmitter site and by Gulf Coast
Community College. It looked like they were either repairing or replacing the WKGC tower as a large crane was located on the site.

(Incidentally, we listened to WPAP all the way back to Tallahassee, where we were still listening
to it clearly all the way to North Monroe Street!)

WPAP at one time owned by the "Lykes Hot Dog" people has a serious coverage area and loyal listeners in portions of Mississippi, South Alabama and almost 100% coverage in Atlanta at night.

AT%T wireless is building that tower....WKGC's STL will go on it when it is finished....the guyed tower by the WKGC studio will come down after the transition.

Speaking of Hot Dogs (and Gin)

Well, Mr. Know-It-All Ingineering Man - you gave partial info on the new tower info....c'mon....what did you leave off??? Beuller..

The college and AT&T Wireless came to a win-win agreement to allow AT&T to build the tower for a cell site on the campus...they needed better cell coverage around the port and Hathaway Bridge and the tower will give that to them.....the college had the FAA clearance because of the existing tower.....the college needed additional tower space for ITV and the WKGC STL and the WKGC RPU.....the existing tower would not pass current wind loading specs (aka EIA-222G) and will be taken down after the transition is made to the new tower.

Everybody is a winner the college get a free tower, ATT gets a place to put a cell site where their coverage is lacking.....the college and ATT will split any additional rental from future tennants...that new tower is top of the line and BEEFY self supporting tower (no guy wires)....I get wood thinking about it (this happens to engineers....it is a phenomenon called tower wood)

So, robfwb is right (When is he NOT?) about the "sticks" on the top of the "tower thingy" on Hollywood in FWB? (Referring to another post on here) It's now called "tower wood?" I learn something new everday.

I don't even wanna guess how many strobey's are attached.

CCENG. I am still very much in to the "V-100's" as you know. I can only imagine what's in, I mean, on their tower.

My wife actually noticed all the construction at the tower. She was curious about it, but all I could tell her was "Wooten will know."

Charlie..thanks for the response. You are highly respected here.

V-100 is the number one station for all of the Lesbians here in the PC area.....so nothing is never "in" the V-100 tower.......this is on the edge (IMO).....and might get busted by the moderator.....

Forgive me, CCENG. It's hard for me to stop thinking from inside the radio box. I mean formats, music, ratings, studios, control rooms, programming, audiences by gender, sex, etc. I just don't get all this tower talk. It's obviously above me. Then again, what is not? Strobey's, well that's a different subject entirely. Could talk for days about those, them, that. Hey rob, how bout them stobey's on those Hollywood towers? Watcha see? That might help CW identify what tower has what on it.

And Mr. Alan McCall - I apologize for my juvenile topics. Not much else to talk about on the ole PC board. But you are way correct on the respect for Charlie. No doubt.

I wish he'd run for FL governor. <<<That, and the previous paragraph are serious.

WPAP has a killer signal. Before 92.5/Alachua signed on, even a slight atmospheric opening would bring it into Gainesville/Ocala.

Stormychuck,

WPAP is still on 92.5. There are just more signals around now to interfere with it. I think there is a translator around Tallahassee on 92.7 for an FSU station (which seems like overkill since the primary is pretty strong around here.)

Tibbs - no problem! You and I would get along just fine. I have a pretty goofy sense of humor too.
