WKGE Johnstown

Edward Schober is Buying WKGE 850 Johnstown for $25,000, he has a construction permit for a station on 850 in Enola Pa ( Harrisburg Market). The original construction permit called for 4kw day directional 1400 watt's night directional. That construction permit has been modified to 6500 watts non-directional day 1650 watt's night directional from WHP's Tower site. if the Sale is Approved .WKGE has Applied for 7 KW day using 3 Existing towers on 870.

That might even make it into Pittsburgh I reckon.

It might get a usable (5 mV/m or greater) signal into the eastern part of Westmoreland County, but would not be at all significant in the total Pittsburgh MSA which covers 6 counties.

KDKA only gets a 5 mV/m signal about half-way across Westmoreland, and while it is on a higher frequency it is a full 50 kw.

I remember in the old EBS days the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania had a network of stations that
were supposed to monitor each other for alerts.

The last two on the chain were WJAC and KDKA.
At no point could one station ever receive the signal of the other.

Since WKHB gets out over a very wide area at 5500 watts
I was assuming that WKGE at 7000 watts might have a shot.

I can get WLLI at my house, 10kW from Somerset, PA.

Hi, Freddy. 990/1490 (Somerset/Johnstown) is all run here out of Westmont(suburb of Johnstown). Forever Broadcasting owns this and all the Froggy's stations. 990 has a very potent signal in the day. Night signal is critical hours, of course. I noticed last night when driving through downtown Somerset, AM-1000 Chicago was so strong it was actually scratching 990's signal like WBZ-1030 destroy's KDKA-1020 signal at night. On another note, is KHB-620 translator 102.1fm on the air yet? I can already get 92.3, 94.1, 97.5 translator's here on a mountain top in Johnstown. I am using the legendary Sony HD radio with very elaborate yagi's.

IMHO I don't think the WKGE 870 will actually be built. WADJ 1330 in Somerset could not make it and signed off. WBEM 1350 Windber also could not make it financially. And a construction permit for 1350 Geistown as a full-time station was never built.WBFD 1300 WHJB 1600 and WSKE Everett have reduced power .

Sounds like the future of AM is one giant graveyard......nondirectional 1kW signals that use a single tower and are cheap to run.
If they interfere with each other, so be it.

I hope WKHB at 102.1 shows up soon. 94.1 absolutely disappeared at my house when they moved
to the WEDO tower.

850 Harrisburg

Didn't Ed Schober pay something like $5000 (at auction) for the 850 license in Enola? Maybe testing the waters to see which signal to take dark (to boost the other?)

On March 30 an application for STA with 1500 watts nondirectional 24 hours was approved. And now a CP for an FM translator on 101.3 with 180 watts was granted to rebroadcast WKGE. Anyone hearing their signal?

Wkge is back on the air with 1500 watts non-directional 24/7 ,they are playing a format they called Ted which is like Bob 96. 9
