WKGL Flipping Formats?

N

NEW WAVE

Guest
It is rumored that WKGL is flipping formats. This would not surprize me as their numbers have been pretty bad for the last few ratings periods. You know it's bad when your competition abandons the format and you still tie for last with the Christian station. I heard that they are flipping to JACK FM, which would be another bad idea. The market already has BOB FM. What is Merrill Lynch thinking?

Oh, it's happening! The Eagle has been on the ground flappin around waiting someone to come end the pain, for quite some time now.

What do you mean, Cumulus is not a fan of Jack? Cumulus has a Jack Fm in Indianapolis. They were the first to launch an Adult Hits with a rock focus. Soon after 2 other stations launched Adult Hits and now Cumulus owned Jack is flat at number 3 out of 3 Adult Hits stations in that market. Maybe that's why they're not a fan anymore.
It's just typical, in this market, for Cumulus to copy their competition and ride on their coat tails. When, really was the last time they came up with an original idea of their own?

I say they should go with an UAC format... Look at 106.3 and the ratings they get and they do not even do anything with Rockford... I and another poster who is not active on the message board had this discussion when RI version 1 was around... There are a lot of people who would support it, and I know I am the first one who comes out and gives The Cloud Company hell on a lot of things, but they know how to do R&B formats... The answer is clear now Cumulus just needs to get a good air staff in place to pull it off... Steve Harvey in the mornings and a well focused format the rest of the day would do very well for the Cloud Company... Of course I could also see them do something predictable and do an FM sports format and put the jock out of its misery... JMO... CC1

Can someone help me understand this? I'd like to know where the Eagle is tied with the Christian staion for last place, doesn't NTA have that slot. And from what I've seen the Eagle is ahead of "bob" in most demos, ofcourse that is on cume since that is what really matters, and with such a small signal "bob" can't fly nearly as far. And YHY wasn't classic rock, they were classic "hits" which is another term for "let's play some B103 music and some XRX music back when it was good and call it a format. Talk about a non-original idea, isn't that pretty much what "bob" is?

Actually, before they signed off, YHY was Classic "Rock." Also, I don't know anybody that compares FM music numbers to AM Talk numbers. Kinda like apples and oranges to me. If the Eagle is starting to compare numbers with ANY local AM station, I would just put up that white flag and admit defeat.

Actually according to a format director in Atlanta, the only reason they flipped it to Jack was becasue it is on the worst signal in Houston (You can barely get the signal west of I-45). Comes out of the triangle and the station has lost so much money over the last year and a half that this was the only way to recoup it. Cut the staff and run it out of a box. More dumbing down of this business...I LOVE IT!!!!

Let's face it, Cumulus/Merrill Lynch is a fan of whatever they think will make them money. I recently saw one of their current sales pieces called, "Save the Children." The package included 15 ads on the Eagle or 15 ads on WROK, along with some mentions and a logo in a newspaper ad...all of only $1000! Here's the kicker...they wanted another $400 to feed the children! They should call it, "Feed Our Bottom Line," or how about "Feed The Dickeys!" Cumulus is the ONLY media company that I know of the makes money off of hungry children, children with cancer (Their St. Jude fundraiser is the same thing), children who need bikes, (Bikes for Tykes). It's absolutely ridiculous! So you will never convince me that Cumulus is against anything they think will make money...be it at the misfortune of children for god sakes!
And...regarding the Eagle being tied with the Christian station, yes, look at the last ratings book and look at the ratings points, (that's how it's measured, not by cume) and check out each demo. Bob FM is number 3 with A25-54 and tied for number 2 with W25-54. Case Closed. Maybe the sales dept over at Cumulus should have a listen to their main competitor, WQFL, and the on air staff should learn to read a ratings book!

I have seen the research. The study shows they are right on track now. No chance they will flip to jack with bob already in the market.

The funny thing is and my wife pointed this out the other day when we had our car serviced so we were stuck with testi radio They have two sloagans going 1 CRTRR and The Classic Rock Station... I say stick to one and toss the other... CC1
