WKHX signal

I've been getting lots of noise in the WKHX signal since Friday. Even close to the tower the signal has a lot of noise in it - it sounds like someone/something is radiating signal at 101.5(besides WKHX.)
I don't suppose they accidently have the backup transmitter/antenna on the air along with the main?
Anyone else notice reception issues?

Tom, I noticed that on Friday. I was in Toco Hill, very close to the WKHX tower. It sounded like the signal was fighting with something.

It's funny that a couple of weeks ago, WYAY's signal kept dropping out, and now it's their sister station.

Compare to either WNNX or WZGC, both of hich are on the same antenna. If WZGC is also low, they are likely all running from their backups - WNNX's backup does a somewhat better job since it's the old main. If only WKHX is loopy, perhaps thereis a problem in the transmitter system. They have an autoswitched dual system. If it were left in manual mode and one side quit, they would fall to quarter power. It is possible that they have not yet hired someone to replace Russel SMith who left a few weeks ago, and are using folks from elsewhere in Citadel. This would likely slow response to a problem.

WKHX has hired a new Chief, Dave from the Citadel chain and he is gonna be great for WKHX and WYAY. Really super guy that knows his stuff. The problem you may be hearing could be due to a fiber optic cable break last Friday. Some construction crews cut into a main cable to the building that cut the phone service, internet and everything and they had to go to a back up audio link. The AT&T crews were right on it but it may not be back to where it should be. And yes, I (WE) do miss Russell but the stations were left in good hands.

Hey AMlover- just for grins....check and make sure the aux is OFF! It sounds RF related - not low power cause it sounds bad by the tower. Signal fades in parking deck downtown.
Maybe someone is throwin' spurs at 101.5 but it sure does sound like the aux and main are on at the same time. If there were issues Friday then that might explain how that could happen - gawd knows how many times I've had the aux and main up at the same time by accident!!

Whatever it was it's gone -sounds good again as of 8:30 Sunday night.
AM - tell Dave and Chad I'll buy lunch at Dustys next time they're at Richland-

Sounds good to me Tom as long as I can come along. :) You were right, somehow the aux. got turned on maybe from some storms around. Anyway Chadley took care of it.

I am very pleased that taylor caught this and offered a solution. This shows how much you guys are still helping each other out here in Atlanta and shows how close this Atlanta radio community can be when things happen.

If I were CE at WKHX/WYAY, I'd come up with some sort of alarm system to ensure that both primary and aux transmitters are not on at the same time. I noticed the same happening with WYAY a year or so ago, although it was more obvious because the audio feeds were not synchronized. This is one of those situations that need to be fixed within a 3 hour window.

We don't yet have this problem at WREK because our main and backup xmtrs feed only one antenna, and the RF plumbing has to be manually switched at a patch panel. We will add a backup antenna before we switch to the directional antenna.

Getting serious here let's all meet Tues. 11:30 am at Dusty's. Tom we will let you slide on this one and we will go dutch unless Roddy will pick up the tap. ;D

King Croeseus had all his coinage stolen by those filthy Persians/Iranians. Now....over 2000 years later....I, too have had to give all my coinage to those filthy Persians/Iranians (and a few filthy Americans too) for their filthy oil.
But even though I work 3 jobs, have 5 hungry, malnourished children, and a financially insatiable wife......I am a weasel of my word.....you fly -I'll buy.

Well, I ate Cheap Chinese Monday, Vietnamese pho at the noodle joint yesterday, and meat n three at Mr. Lee's Chop Chop today. Tomorrow is Abdullah The Butchers. This will save me enough loot so that I won't hafta take advantage of the po PBS type next Tuesday. The fun was in the offer. I may be a minnit or two late, Tuesday 11A is a conference call I can't skip out on. But I'll be there eventually.
