WKII - Fomat Change ?

Scuttlebutt has it that a format change for WKII-AM 1070 in Port Charlotte may be in the plans. Can it get any worse than it is now ?

I recall being in the Tampa area a few years ago, tuned into 1070. Not only did I hear a local jock break between music, but during that local break, the jock read... a lost dog notice. And I'm thinking, "Clear Channel owns this station?" (You'd expect canned generic blabber from their jocks on many of their stations, particularly in smaller markets.)

Jeff Collins at least tries. He mixes in 50's oldies and some 60's ones that aren't beat to death. Otherwise, it's CC's laughable "Premium Choice".

Ya ever notice they have three things they talk about... Show biz news, Lifestyle news or I heart radio. That's it.

I think WKII is a real joke as an 'oldies station'. Actually sister station 104.9 has a better play variety of oldies than 1070.
Pollitt and the like needs to return! Just my humble opinion!

WKII is Classic Country as of today (Monday). They are calling it "Kix Classic Country" playing on their sister station "Kix Country" 92.9FM which has always been the top station in the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area. Not sure just how well classic country will play there but it might just do OK with the older population in that general area.

Sounds pretty good to me! Definitely better than the horrible generic Clear Channel oldies sounded.

The music on WKII is decent, but is almost AC Country. I'd like more "toe tappers" thrown in. But, between that one, WDDV (which plays a really good mix of 50's to 80's pop), and WAFC when I can get it, the music on AM isn't too dreadful these days.

More on 1320 from Sarasota (spelled with no hyphens...). Great music, not overplayed stuff. The only drawback is the bizarre audio processing. I like the compression, but there is way too much bass, and the clipping is obvious. Still, a very enjoyable music mix.

I have noticed that with the HD stations. They all seem to have too much bass even when they are not running the HD. It is even worse when HD is on. It appears as though the lack of bandwidth is being compensated because of the HD equipment.

That, of course, is ridiculous... but it goes with the whole absurdity of HD on AM. One thing considered important in HD is having a smooth blend between analog and digital signals. The way WDDV sounds in analog sure wouldn't translate well to digital!

You have to wonder how many digital listeners they have. And, is the 1450 repeater also IBOC?

1450 is using the iBoc equipment but not running HD, anymore. What I thought was nice was the lack of generated noise when in iBoc. But there were too many transitions in too short of a time.

This is what I noticed is the same problem I had with C-quAM.
