WKIP 1450AM Goes all talk!

I happened to be scanning through the dial, and heard Mark Levin's voice on 1450. So... checked their website, and found out they're now a news/talk station.

I'm not sure what their WHOLE schedule is, but it apparently includes Levin, Limbaugh, Savage, Quinn and Rose in the morning *pukes*, and Coast to Coast at night.

I never understood why WGHQ didn't get any ratings from their talk format. WABC has a staticy signal around here during the day, so does WGY, so a local talker seemed fit. Maybe WKIP, located in the middle of Poughkeepsie, will get better ratings.

Aside from Limbaugh and Savage, it sounds like standard Clear Channel talk fare. Local morning show, with network shows the rest of the day and overnight is usually Coast to Coast AM -- arguably the only good thing on 1450.

Every AM station in the Hudson Valley that ever switched from a music to a news or talk or news-talk format has lost listeners and failed miserably. WBNR, WGHQ, WKIP, WEOK all tried it before and didn't register on Arbitron’s ratings.
You would think WKIP would have learned when their last news/talk format, abet a different, weaker lineup from the late 80’s & 90’s failed. The new lineup including Rush Limbaugh which was on WEOK 1999-2002 also went unnoticed. While the Standards format does not have great demographics WKIP was the only Poughkeepsie area station to be rated with a fairly steady 1.2 -2 rating. That would appear better than an unmeasurably small number of younger listeners. While news /talk are popular in many markets it has never worked on small local stations in large part because they are already on WABC in NYC and WGY Schenectady. The only thing WKIP and the others that have tried it can offer is a stronger signal in their immediate local area. Perhaps some local talk would generate some interest .IF CC wanted to try something to improve the revenue they earn from the rocking chair set, they could have made a better choice, like say oldies. I don’t see this working. I thought Clear Channel was not going to do anything risky to the value of the stations whose sale was still pending.

The morning show is syndicated too. Quinn and Rose... I know them from XM... horrible stuff. Ever since WGY and WABC introduced HD their signals have gotten worse. Maybe if KIP advertised this format, they'd go over better. For WGHQ, I never saw billboards or any type of advertising. How do you get listeners if no one knows you're broadcasting talk?

Now that WKIP pulled the plug on WW1 standards, they brought back its talk station for the first time in 6 years. This is the format where WGHQ left off since the end of January where the station goes to "Timeless Classics" which is now "The Sound of the Valley" along with WBNR and WLNA. WNNJ in New Jersey now has the same format under "Timeless Classics". I remember the last time Rush was on WGHQ back in August where it goes to all music completely. Now Rush is on WKIP for now.

Where's Rick McCaffery's show? Is he still hosting the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on Friday nights?

Thanks for stating the obvious and pointless, Disney. To answer your question, Solid Gold Jukebox is now on Saturday 6PM- Midnight except when pre-empted by Marist Basketball.
