WKIP Building Was Demolished

I looked up on Scott Fybush's website that the old WKIP building at 20 Tucker Drive was demolished last Tuesday. Chief engineer Bill Draper tells NERW that Clear Channel originally planned to keep the building (which dated from 1968), but with no easy way to connect it to the two-year-old studio complex next door that now houses WKIP and its sister stations, the decision was made to demolish it and replace it with a new addition to the current studio building. (Longtime WKIP/WRNQ morning man Van Ritshie came up from Florida to take the first whack at the old building.)

Are there any plans for the new studio after the demise of the old WKIP building?

The last time I drove past the old WKIP building it looked so dilapidated that it was ready to fall down on its own. I thought Van Ritshie left his WRNQ on air job to work in sales in Poughkeepsie‘s Clear Channel Group. I wonder when he left for Florida and what he is doing there.

I wish we could edit our posts after they are posted like most boards. Anyway I meant to say the old WKIP building looked unused. I thought perhaps it was kept after the construction of the new building, because it might have housed the WKIP transmitter, (the towers are right next to it) and other satellite and transmitting equipment.

Van moved back from Florida a few months ago; wonder why he didn't stay??? Maybe they sen't him packin' due to the excess ego..

In his own immortal words: "way to go, babe...."

BTW, any word when 92.9 is changing hands???

Re: WBPM SALE UPDATE

Funny you should ask that today. It usually takes several months for the FCC to approve license transfers . However, I decided to check the FCC data base to see how it was coming and I found it was approved on 7/24/06. Now the lawyers have to get together and finalize the deal, which like buying anything big, that involves lawyers trying to drag things out, so they can make money could take a while. Nevertheless, it shouldn't be too much longer.
