WKIQ

hey guys. discovered this one today when i was playing with the radio. i heard daughtry then a soft rock song. before that i heard "your hometown station for news, music, talk and sports." vary interesting. i was looking on the internet and a lot of sources has this one an an urban ac witch it is obviously not one now. so has anyone else picked this one up? thanks.

oh ok. i see nothing wrong with the station. i just caught 5 minutes of it. i would say it is like an easy listening station or something. that would be my guess. i only heard them play daughtry's home and i do not know who the other artist was. that was my observation.

WKIQ has been around for a long time, orginally as WLBF, then WEUS, WLCO, WEUS again, and now WKIQ. It was being time brokered to Mary Banks Ministries as a religious station, but I had no idea that has since changed to John Harper with news-talk. I'm wondering if WQBQ is still programming Spanish?

Mark Banks Ministries was tossed out of WKIQ over 5 months ago, it not a year.

John Harper is leasing it, but he has a different set of staff up there.

WQBQ is still running spanish.

how is it that john harper is not in jail? how can he be leasing 2 stations, but not pay any of his employees or bills....including the IRS....(search public records for the info)...this amazes me... ???

no more Imus.....beacause he didn't pay that either....how is he paying Rama? or is he?

and Rama Communications is WORSE!!!

well, this whole wkiq is nothing spicticular or anything. i was just saying i found it and could only stand a minute of it... daughtry's home then some soft rock crap? hahahhahah sounds like something magic would do over here. rotfl. hell a lot of sources have different formats listed for it. wow...

TRUST ME..TRUST ME.. I know ALL ABOUT HARPER, I investigated him over 2 years ago when WMEL, then at 920 went into recievership. I went down to the Brevard County Courthouse to read up on him.

I actually got a phone call from Mr Harper himself telling me to knock it off, that I don't know what I';m doing and that I'm wrong!

And Yes, Rama is worse then Harper... boy, the stories I could tell about Rama!

I can tell you that John Harper has no interest in WKIQ. To quote him;"...I had looked at leasing it several months ago but since that time I simply have my hands full with WMEL AM 1300 and decided at the time to just concentrate on WMEL..."
I hope this quells any rumors.

Bob,

It's great to see you chime in on here. I just discovered Radio-Info.Com a few weeks ago, and I'm still reading all the various posts from different markets.

Well, then my sincerest apologies for the misinformation.

HOWEVER, it was someone WITHIN the Rama Communications family itself that told me Harper was somehow involved in WKIQ 1240.

hey bob. it's nice to see you on here :). i don't know anything about rama but i will say nothing on that. i wondering what is going on with wkiq? as i said earlier, i think they are a easy listening / news / talk combo or something. i caught a little bit of them today. there signal is in and out here in altamonte. interesting stuff. i know rama at one time owned 1300 in cocoa before wmel went on there. the formats were all over the map. six months of gospel, six month of wtir, then spanish or something like that. that is not the order but that is how i remember it.

Rama still owns 1300 Am, they leased it to John harper and he paid for the call letter change!

Remember when spanish lasted ALL of THREE DAYS on 1300 as Latina 1300, La Radio De Todos? Sometime in the fall of 2005 I think..

I believe that format was once okay to refer to as "Full Service" :)

WLBE has been full service for years, and WKIQ was once a news/talk competitor with WLBE when I worked there before it went Classic Country years ago. WQBQ...another decent local talker not-so-way-back-when, live from the Lake Square mall.

Sorry, I just had a flashback.

Byron,

Did you work with Bob Green when you were with WQBQ? That station was a decent talker back in the 90s. WQBQ had a news-talk format once again in early 2000 when it was co-owned with classic country WKIQ. It wasn't bad. I think WQBQ had a local morning talk show that sounded pretty decent as well back then.

Last I knew, a computer in the back of 1300 in Cocoa was supposed to feed programming to WKIQ ..
but, that was a few months ago, the programming was suposed to be gospel...but nothing ever seemed to
happen to make things work ...

It was doing that for awhile, I heard WTIR's ID once.

1240 had also spent some time simulcasting WOKB, when it was on 1600.

All the while that WKIQ had 1300WTIR or 1600 WOKB programming on, there was no local staff, etc at WKIQ.

Mark,

Never worked at WQBQ but I met Bob there and that is how I got into WKIQ when he moved over there. I was at WKIQ for over two years as it was the "Talk of Lake County", helped them launch their first website and my voice was on a lot of promos, including the liners bringing Bob back in from breaks during "Talk Track". When my boss Carl C. changed the format to classic country and sold the station to the new owners, making WKIQ and WQBQ co-owned, I left and never looked back. The new ownership soon moved away from the Palm Circle transmitter site into the nicer offices across from Florida Hospital, and I believe they went bankrupt a few years after, not sure.. Rama probably got those two then-dark frequencies for almost nothing, and they haven't been anywhere near as good sounding since.

Byron
