WKIT 100.3 does "Pay For Play" again.

"Pay For Play" is a fund raiser that WKIT does when a major disaster occurs. If my memory serves me right, this is the 4th time they've done this. Maybe Bobby Russell can find time to tell us for sure.

"Pay For Play" works like this. You donate a minimum of $10.00 and request ANY song and they will play it. It sure gets weird hearing Dolly Parton sing on 100.3. All the proceeds go to the Red Cross for Haitian earthquake relief with Stephen and Tabitha King matching the donations up to $25,000 according to WABI-TV 5.

We first did the pay for play for "The Ice Storm" then Katrina. A couple of years ago the Bangor Humane Society needed some fast cash to help offset costs associated with some abused dogs. At that time we did a mini version of the pay for play and raised a few grand. After seeing those pictures from Haiti we knew we just had to do something. I talked to Steve this morning and he didn't hesitate to give us the green light and pledged to match dollar for dollar everything up to 25K. Hey...talking on the phone and playing music...it's what we do...plus I got to play Marty Robbins El Paso this morning and Jason just played Pirates by Emerson Lake & Palmer..

We also did one shortly after 9/11/01. I think that might have gotten the most money donated.

Thank you guys. I remembered the ice storm, 9/11, and Katrina, but had forgotten the Humane Society until you just jogged my memory. "Pay for Play" IS GREAT LOCAL RADIO!!!! Plus it's a gas hearing you guys digging for songs that aren't that easily accessible. But most important is the amount of money raised for very worthy causes. Kudos to all of you!

A couple of great songs. Nice going, 'KIT folks. (any other oddities?)

"Pay For Play" wrapped up successfully, with the last pledge taken last night, January 22nd, at 5PM. $27,343.63 raised for the American Red Cross Haitian relief fund, and with the Kings matching that amount up to $25,000, that's a nice chunk of change to help out some folks who desperately need it. Last night was pretty interesting, I played everything from Robin Trower to Glen Campbell to Enrico Caruso, wrapping it up about 9:30PM with Jim Croce's "Time In A Bottle". A lot of work, but worth it. Thanks to all who pledged, you guys really had us working our butts off to get it done!
