What a WONDERFUL website dedicated to the famous WKIX-AM Channel 85. Truly one of the best radio stations of all times! I think all will enjoy this website! Good also to have the old Channel 85 back up and running playing the great Oldies!

I like the WKIX Tribute site! My late father worked 'across town' at the former 1240 WRNC (now Christian formatted WPJL) when he was going to NCSU in the late 60's. From my childhood, I remember stories about the old 'Channel 85'. I remember hearing that the running joke around WRNC was how they would 'say goodbye to Durham' at sunset, when they cut their power to 250 watts (while WKIX was booming into Durham with their 5kw night time power). I am really enjoying the old 'KIX airchecks!

Yes, this website shows how much better radio stations were ran when they actually had a group of good people running them (instead of being almost completely automated and corporate whitewashed).

;D Southern Broadcasting was a pretty good company to work for! Mike Ludgate at WTOB and Tommy Walker PD were two of the best!

Glad you guys are enjoying the Wkixrewound.com website. I posted that back on the 10th on the other WKIX thread and thought everybody ought to know about it. I've been aware of it for years. I used to listen to Tommy Walker and his "70 plus share" audience every day. All the rest of the "KIX Men of Music" were the greatest. Tommy was the MC at the YMCA in Raleigh when my garage band played there in the late 60's and Tommy hired me at the old WGLD FM100 back in '78. A great guy to work for.

I am very impressed the the WKIX-AM Channel 85 Rewound website!!! Every thig is great, and you can even stream LONG old airchecks there!! Very impressive!!! Are y`all going to do any work on there promoting the NEW WKIX-AM Channel 85 Oldies revival? As they haven`t got a website yet....

You worked for Bernie Mann at GOLD in the Bank building.. ?? Never could understand why Tommy took that gig?  BP, Hmm Not Bill Cox and certainly not Bill McQuage???

Yeah, worked for Bernie in the old First Citizens Bank building right on Main at High Street. Don't know why..and don't care why Tommy took the job...just glad he did..so I could work for him and work with a lot of great talent in that building! Friendships that have lasted a very long time. Those other Bills...can't help you on those.

Can you please fill me in on Joe Goodpasture? Wow! What a cool radio name! Is he still alive, and if so, is a member of the WKIX Channel 85 alumni club? Are any of the members on the "new" WKIX-AM Channel 85?

Joe is alive and doing well. He has a page on Facebook.

WKIX Alumni also has a Group page on Facebook operated by Gary Edens. It needs more participants.

Thanks for the update! Great to see that Joe is doing great! I will have to check him out on Facebook.
