WKJY: K-Joy or K 98.3?

It appears that WKJY is going by both K-Joy and K 98.3. On their website, I see references to both. K-Joy is a brand that's been around for a long time. Would they really change it?

Sounds like their slowly phasing out K-Joy in favor of K-98.3. If it doesn't work out they could always go in the other direction and call themselves Joy-98 ;D

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Jon Daniels responsible for the poorly rated 94-X?
Now he's at K-Joy and they are calling themselves K-98.3.
There's no Joy in that!

I worked at K-Joy in the 80's and early 90's. I did board-assist, assistant programming, and was Traffic Manager over six years. There were many attempts to drop the "K-Joy" moniker. We were known as the "format of the week radio station" back then. Each time we dropped K-Joy we took a dive in the ratings. Why? Because no matter what we did, listeners insisted on writing K-Joy in their diaries. So we gave in and kept K-Joy at least somewhere in each hour.

I guess now with PPM it is possible to finally get rid of the old moniker.

To be fair, until recently, no format worked on 94.3 with it's limited signal. And I do remember a time they dropped K-Joy and went by their call letters.

One thing that puzzles me is why do they start Tesh's show at 5PM? I can't think of one commercial radio station that starts a show at 5PM.

They should be doing well given they're the only commercial English language FM station licensed to Nassau County. I know that when I lived on the south shore that seemed to be the top choice in stores.

John was at the helm of whatever they were running, but I wouldn't blame him for much of what goes on in that place, sure he programmed, but he was only being told what to do, by the corner office, and that festering puss boil is still there!

John Tesh starts at 7:00, after Jon Daniels.

Well you're right. But I remember they used to start his show at 5.
