Kovas filed with the FCC to take WKKD silent for financial reasons. I find this disingenuous. Why not just say we are approved to upgrade 1590 and we have no reason to pay the power bill until we can do this.

BTW whenever I need to hear a colon clensing infomercial, I will now have to go to my tape archive. I can no longer just turn on 1580.
 
My guess is it will never be built. I don't think Kovas wants to build it. Its probably not worth building for anyone else either. I think 1580 is a pretty good channel at night. However the license power is not that high, there is a 1600 in cedar rapids running Iblock. The economic climate in the quad cities is not exactly dynamic. If it was a omni with a good night signal perhaps it would be worth the effort. However I think its a 4 tower directional array.
 
The old 1580 in Davenport was daytime-only. It went through a whole bunch of formats (including urban twice) after 1580's owner back in the 70s sold their FM. It was off several times before the final sign off.

I don't see the new CP for 1580 ever being built. There's only one AM in the Quad Cities with any real ratings, CC's WOC. There's already a Spanish station, and Moody seems to have the religion audience.
 
I'm sorry to hear the news of 1580. The station was my first full time on air gig. I also used to sell advertising on the station in the 80s and early 90's. We kicked but back then with oldies and sports. Too bad...
