WKKI, Celina, signs off 3 hours for Good Friday

This may be a first...WKKI, Celina, Ohio announces on Facebook they will be off the air from noon to 3 on Good Friday because of the holiday. The format is not religious. Apparently they'll be pulling the plug, either running dead air with open carrier or turning the transmitter off. Thoughts?

May be just a good time to do some transmitter maintenance. I moved a station the day after Christmas 2 years ago. (We had a studio lease ending 12/31)

They are saying it's "In honor" of Good Friday.. I think that's pretty stupid to say -- they should be honest with the reason.. I don't think a Classic Rock station cares about the religious holiday besides K94 runs a satellite/automated format anyways -- not like there would be any on air staffers in the building anyways outside of their local sports programming.

My guess is their doing some form of behind the scenes studio work/transmitter maintenance.

I'd like to think in fact this station is marking the "Tre Ore" or "three hours" when it's believed Christ was on the cross. Many years ago, a station where I worked, WNCC-950 in Barnesboro, PA, suspended its usual full-service format and ran beautiful music from noon to 3 p.m.

It's been awhile since I've been up that way, but last I knew WKKI had a rock format with at least some live/local personalities. I know they were satellite for a long time starting in 1982. From their Facebook page:

Please make a note that K94 will be off the air for three hours on Friday, April 6th from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm to honor Good Friday

R/L has WKKI listed as an Adult Contemporary station but shows the slogan 'K94 - Your Station That Rocks'
Are there any other stations who are doing similar things on Good Friday?

That's probably it, the area of Western Ohio that WKKI is located in is predominantly Catholic.

If they are a rocker, they better check those logs. Don't want to play something like AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" into or out of the 3 hours...

Southern Mercer County is predominantly Catholic it is true, Celina and the northern county is a mix of Catholic and Protestant. I can remember all or most of the stores closing for the three hours. Still not sure why you shut down a rock format and sign off.

Of course they could run 3 hours of sounds of the ocean and flip to Beautiful Music. Wait, that's been done!

(If you are in the area I'd love to know if they kill the carrier and if you hear any equipment testing.)

Good Morning All,
Was the Easter Bunny good to you? Personally I'm coming down off a Peep sugar mountain HIGH. Sick how much I like those. hmmm.
I'm Cat from K94, and wanted to address a question surrounding our 3 hr. silence on Good Friday. The management makes those decisions and actually we've done it for the last 3 years to my recollection. It IS a great time for maintenance, as well.

As far as the jocks being LIVE on K94, WKKI, well, I'm sitting here right now blabbing away in studio. Live, as in ~ while my show's on. :) Many stations now "pipe" it all in my choice, or by neccessity, but we're still very much live here.
K94 Morning Show w/ Terry & Julie 6-10 AM / I've switched to 10-2 PM for now / Wes 2-6 PM
Come find me on facebook and say hi! Or call 888-889-9400 for a request gang.

I'd like to thank each one of you who've always supported me at this station! Love ya! :D
Best Always
~Cat Rucklos
