WKLI flipping to Country

A post by morning man Bob Wolf says he's out of a job and looking because they are flipping to Country. Obviously they aren't swapping formats with 104.9. What will end up on 104.9?

Christmas and then a flip to Alternative or Urban AC or something? Albany's running out of formats and there's the overlap issue with Fly/B95/Jamz (with Mainstream/Adult/Rhythmic CHR under the same roof) Some kind of sports or talk format even?

How about an oldies format on 104.9, that would be a great idea. "Fox Oldies" continues to be tge station plays lots of pre-1964 music as well as post-1964 music as part of the oldies format (now known as "Real Oldies"). I hope it should be a good fit on 104.9 to compete with classic hits "Oldies 98.3" which is WTRY. What do you think?

It's a great idea if you want to attract the "geezer demo" and very little revenue.

Sad but true, pre-1970 oldies, classic country and standards don't fare very well revenue-wise, I still say Urban AC, or maybe Spanish (considering the growing Black and Hispanic populations in the area)... Alternative would be nice too :)

This may be a 104.9 "retread" .... but they DID do jazz several years ago. They also touched upon a hybrid format of soul & jazz...if IRC. Can't vouch for how easy it is to sell, but I can't believe that there's not a market for something similar. There are satellite formats (on OTA radio) that have a smooth-jazz, R&B-type mix. Most of the formats today are pure garbage, (although you could say that about most of the music too)...and just because 18-49'ers are the targeted demo, this means that EVERY station has to cow-tow to the same fickle audience. Most of those under 30 don't even know what a "RADIO" is! Sooner or later, there's got to be a little more diversification. We DON'T need more country, we DON'T need more rock, we DON'T need more sports...which only leaves something which either appeals to an older populace or to a alternative language.
