WKLT Kalkaska Granted CP To Collocate With WJZQ 92.9 and Diplex With WLJW 95.9

A lot of people are speculating about whether the signal will be better or worse from the proposed site. Without comparing the Longley Rice Maps for both, you really can't accurately guess. The application has the R-L Map for the proposed site.
 
I really think WKLT 97-5 needs to swap frequencies With WJZQ 92-9 after the tower move because KLT is the Bread and Butter
92.9 is 100.000 watts and the signal is amazing.. swap call letters
 
I was in downtown traverse city yesterday and 95.9 WLJW signal is not great is has a lot of static and KLT on there tower now is so much better!!! i think 97.5 KLT on The 95.9 WLJW tower is a mistake also wjlw is directional too

One simply needs to tune to 95.9 WLJW (assuming it is broadcasting at full strength) and compare reception to that of WKLT, as the poster above me has already done. The exception to the rule would be one of the nulls of WLJW pattern, which shouldn't prove predictive of WKLT signal strength.

97.5 WKLT will likely see somewhat degraded reception in Traverse City and also Leelanau County, significantly degraded reception along the M-32 corridor, and improved reception in places such as Cadillac and Houghton Lake.

Of course, if the directional antenna is poorly designed or poorly installed, the above predictions could prove inaccurate.

In terms of programming placement by signal, my guess is 92.9's current programming will stay put and 97.5's current programming will stay put. If 97.5's programming were to move to 92.9, I wouldn't put Hot AC on 97.5.

If it were me calling the shots, I would actually move WKLT's programming to 92.9, I'd flip 97.5 to a simulcast of AM 580, and I'd flip 107.5 to either Hot AC or Adult Contemporary.

I saw the proof of performance of the DA model for WLJW online, and it is possible that the existing pattern could work for both stations. It's pretty good, but you would have to proof it at 97.5 as well as 95.9. Not like the WLAV and WFBE patterns, which have unnecessarily deep nulls. I don't know if they would have to make a new antenna.
 
That null of WLAV in the direction of Holland is indeed an unfortunate situation and is a function of very sloppy engineering, in my opinion. The signal there is far weaker than predicted (and allowable) strength. In fairness, it's been a couple years since I've last experienced that debacle first hand, so perhaps Cumulus has found a way to improve the situation since then.

A filing has been made with the FCC to relocate the allocation for the silent 97.5 MHz in Whitehall to 99.5 MHz. If that gets approved, perhaps WLAV will be able to modify its pattern a bit? I'm unsure.

As for WKLT, they wouldn't want the WLJW pattern, I suspect. The poster earlier said 95.9's signal strength isn't that great in downtown TC. 95.9 also has a substantial null toward Houghton Lake.
 
MacGar seems to think 96.7 WLXV will be able to pick up the slack in the TC area, and they perhaps also think any disaffected Lite 96 listeners will listen to co-owned 104.5 Bob FM more than before. We shall see.

Personally, I don't think Bob FM given its rock heavy lean is any substitute for Lite 96.
 
I don't see how WLXV could substantially upgrade either. Mac Gar would have to buy another station. I think I saw a study that showed 46 stations in the market, allowing eight stations, five in one service. But I don't see where anything besides WLDR could be bought.
 
Yup. Stations at 96.7 near Sturgeon Bay, near Newberry, and Rogers City would make a move of WLXV closer to Traverse City, or a class upgrade from the current site, difficult.

MacGar seems to think the current facilities of WLXV will suffice in serving Traverse City area listeners seeking AC music.
