WKMK temporarily off air Sunday?

I tuned into WKMK on Sunday around 6:30pm and there was no signal (I usually get a strong stereo signal). Instead I was hearing a weak signal from Kicks 106.3 out of Westchester County. When I tuned in again a few hours later WKMK was back. Were they having technical issues Sunday?

Maybe it was that pesky 25 watt translator that's 93 feet off the ground in Queens...

That was shut down a couple of months ago, shortly after it started broadcasting, as a result of complaints from Thunder listeners.
Its owners have applied to the F.C.C. for permission to move it to Glen Oaks, by the Queens/Nassau border. It would run only 10 watts on 106.3, but from atop a much higher building. Thunder has filed an objection to the application.

There are pirates running over 100 watts in Brooklyn that do more damage to Thunder 106.

Also, there was an e-skip opening on Sunday, so if you were getting another station on 106.3, it might have been skip.

No, it wasn't e-skip. I was getting Kicks 106.3 from Westchester. From where I live in Essex county, I normally get WKMK, but if I turn my antenna I can get a weak signal from Kicks. Since I was only getting Kicks I know WKMK had to be off the air, if even for only a short time.

That was dripping with sarcasm, my comment. Thunder needs to worry about their home market (the Jersey Shore) and forget about a 10 watter on Long Island.

I find it amusing that the entire time Press Communications ran 106.3 back when it was an alternative rock format, they weren't the least bit concerned about translators and pirate stations interfering with it ... even though this station was very popular in the NYC area taking its limited signal into account. It just goes to show you that making WHTG a success just wasn't a priority for them, and that it was the red-headed stepchild of their cluster during the time they ran it. Alternative rock fans in New Jersey deserve far better than that.
