WKMX 35TH ANNIVERSARY COMING UP: LOOKING FOR AUDIO

A

Hello folks!

The 35th anniversary of the WKMX sign-on is coming up in a couple weeks and I was wondering if anybody might have audio of the station over the last thirty-five years that they would like to share. I'm especially interested in hearing material from the first few years, but would be very appreciative of audio from any era.

If you have any audio or know of someone that might, please let me know! Feel free to drop an email to (aaron-at-magicbroadcasting-dot-net).

Thanks!

Gee Aaron, that's pretty darn ballsy of you. A little recent history: Styles, which became Magic because Styles didn't perform revenue wise after paying good money for KMX in large part because they told BJ Kelli and John Houston that they were and had always been doing it wrong that they were only succeeding because everyone else in the market (Woof, Radio People, etc) were worse. Then they proceeded to break up KMX and remake it into kmx which is where you are now, trying to re-capitalize. I wish you luck but also advise that you not hold your breathe on this request. Mr. Van Dyke may have saved some tapes ....oh yeah, he was just allowed to go. Mike Holderfield might but he's probably got them transferred to his ipod for personal enjoyment and doesn't want to take a chance on you putting them on your present equipment since he hasn't been caring for your equip for a few years. BJ and John are right now ROTFLTAO. Hal Edwards ain't giving away the beginning basis for his play book. The biggest collection is more than likely owned by T Duffie ...... I'm sure he'd SELL them to you for a very small fortune as a consulting fee seeing as how your company paid him for his creation (no snub intended to Doc in anyway, Doc was smart enough to hire Terry and stay out of his way) then threw it all away (beginning to repeat myself). Hey, call Mark out in LA, since Magic has a station out there I'm really sure he'd return your call (not turning blue yet are you?). Get the psychics to make a call to the spirit realm and contact Tim Godwin (boy do I miss him!!!) and you'll definitely get an out of this world response and bit. Or, just call Fred Grase in Enterprise (first person Doc hired) and sell him on the idea. Hey, call Wendy ......oh yeah, forgot. Stevie probably has some but it's cold in Iowa now so she'll not be able to thaw them out until Spring. Might give a shout to the award winning news folks but the work that Brandi and Don and Gina did just wouldn't fit the new kmx.

Gosh, this is a tough task for you. Well, sorry I couldn't help but thank you very much for the recognition that you have afforded KMX from kmx with this request. Good luck!

God, you guys [EDIT]
It was a simple request in order to salute the tradition of a heritage radio station, and the hard work of hundreds of dedicated broadcasters over the last 35 years. Arron didn't have anything to do with the sorted history of Styles or Magic past a year ago!

[EDIT-namecalling]

Gee, Stewy, still bitter? SFLABOY has it right. I'd like to be able to pay respects to the heritage behind the radio station that I am honored to be programming today. KMX has been a part of this area for a long time and many very talented people have been through the halls, both in Dothan and in Enterprise. The average listener is going to be way too young to recognize the voices or probably even remotely care about the fact that the station has that much heritage behind it, but for those who have grown up with it and might recognize the voices, it would be a nice trip down memory lane. Stewy, you seem to have all the answers these days, you tell me... would you rather I choose to ignore the occasion? But wait, if I were to do that, I'm sure you would have some kind of witty poem or haiku about how I should have recognized it.

I guess I can't win, can I?

Thanks for listening, Stewy.

Mr Tyler,

I have to agree with you on one of thing 1. You are right your average listener is way to young (17 & below). While it would be nice to take a trip down memory lane ,The ones that grew up with it have been ran off and moved on to Power Houses in the Market such as WDJR and WOOF look at your latest Arbitron Survey you will see .
What is up with having Julie Voice Tracking 10-3 now ? Comibined with her "Live" shift she will be on for a total of 9 hours a day is it because you are so Infatuated?

Yes Mr. Tyler, ignoring would have been just fine and no Sir, I'd have not called to the bard if you had. Still bitter, obviously. Trying to get over the bitterness? Yes, but just as obviously not succeeding all the time. As SFLABOY points out, you nor he had anything to do with it. Can you win? Yes you can, by doing good radio. And you are welcome (that I listen). It doesn't matter to you I'm sure but here are my listening habits of your station/cluster: TVY - once every blue moon or so (country not my thing but when weather is happening I'll listen then); kmx - without Stephano, not at all (wrong target for me); JRL - weekends, averaging one to two total hours each weekend; BBK - not at all (wrong target for me); LDA - was listening a whole lot but now that I'm hearing songs that I've known for years by heart with relative frequency I'm tiring of them again. BTW, when are you on the air at kmx and I will start listening to your show. Also, does kmx still do the bridging two worlds thing with the Andersons on Thursday? If so I'll tune in for that entertainment.

I don't have any, but hopefully someone will help you out. I grew up listening to KMX
and thought DJ's were larger than life back then. It would be cool to hear some
memory lane.

Good luck with your quest. I think thats a very cool thing to do.
