WKNO-FM days away from HD

Assuming the December 1st target date is met, expect to see WKNO to be using HD radio in days. I suspect the mix will be not unlike WMAV-FM/Oxford with a stream of classical music available 24/7.

"Hey Mom, it's Gustav Mahler! Crank it up!"

Also, one HD Radio aside... could someone let WREC know there is dead-air on its HD stream? As soon as HD locks and the analog switches to digital, it goes silent. Now, it is digital HD dead air, but dead air none-the-less.

WKNO will have 3 channels... the first will be the current lineup, with NPR in mornings and afternoons, classical middays and overnight. Channel 2 will be 180 opposite with music and news zigging when channel 1 zags. And channel 3 will be all BBC all the time.

it may be getting time to save up for a new radio before long

just not something i want to do.. it's tough finding something with my requirements at a reasonable price

I must say that the radio I got for my everyday car - the JVC HD model available at Best Buy -- is just fine. Of course, this vehicle is a 2003 Saturn that stays full of horse tack and dust from the barn. My needs for that vehicle are modest.

Still for $200 installed, I thought it wasn't bad.

Now, I wouldn't put that radio in the Cayenne, but, that's another story.

Just noticed... 'KNO has its HD streams running now. It is as Rob had told us it would be.

It is sort-of cool having the BBC stream (though, it's fairly compressed). One gets World news from BBC one doesn't get on domestic media (though, BBC does have a well-documented left slant). Also, being a dual UK/American citizen, it is useful to get news from the Mother Country.

Enjoy.

Slant or not, the BBC is a refeshing change from the usual stories that our networks like to report... I used to listen to the BBC World Service regularly on shortwave, and now do so sometimes on XM. :)

Is WMAV also running the BBC on an HD channel? Between WMAV and WKNO, it might cover most of the territory that WKNA used to cover back before it went religious.

WKNO is not affiliated with WMAV, so I don't know. WKNP, Jackson, is still airing just the analog WKNO stuff, but my understanding is that plans are to go digital there at some point in the moderately near future.

No, WMAV is currently only running two HD streams. And, BBC ain't one of them. The point, I am told, is to always have a music stream 24/7.

Unfortunately, the HD stream is spotty in Germantown, where I type on my new iMac. That's not surprising, of course; I am just on the edge of the 60 dBu.
