WKNR and OSU Re-Up

WKNR announced today that they have re-upped with OSU in a long term deal to continue on as the Cleveland affiliate for Buckeyes football and basketball.

As part of the deal, KNR2 1540 will have some bones thrown their way as well (coaches shows, a hoops game or 2...minor stuff)

Why would 1540 need to have any of the games on their station? What other sports conflicts would WKNR have, other than maybe a Lake Erie Monsters' game? And it better be daytime games on 1540, since they have no nighttime signal.

It would have to be daytime. I'm sure some Buckeye fans would prefer if the games were on a different station giving how some of the 'KNR hosts treated the team in the past.

At most 1540 may air a couple of daytime hoops games, which they have done in past years when there are Monsters conflicts on 850.

Most of 1540's involvement involves airing the coaches shows, which air live during the day. (WKNR historically also replays said coaches shows later in the night.)

OSU football games will only be on 850.

1540 is slated to air the Division II Notre Dame College Falcons games, which they have done for the past few years since the school began fielding a team.

Well, Chris Fedor (whose whole M.O. was being overly critical of the local teams) had long been sent packing to "The Fan".

Aaron Goldhammer's anti-OSU gimmick is about 80% schtick, and most people realize it.

Bruce Hooley famously got shown the door at WBNS due to being overly critical of Jim Tressel, but he's been more even handed concerning Urban Meyer, and he's a big backer of hoops coach Thad Matta.

But the majority of KNR's hosts (Munch, Rizzo, Brinda, Roda) are very supportive.

Just as an aside...Munch and Hooley are OSU grads, Rizzo went there for a cup of coffee before transferring to Ohio U. in Athens, and Brinda and Roda have kids who go to OSU.
