WKNR and the web...

For whatever it's worth, WKNR/850 actually unveiled an actual website.

http://www.wknr.com

This represents a return to the web for ol' 850 since a scism between owner Salem Communications and sportstalkcleveland.com. I just can't tell if it's an in-house website (the telling trademark is: "Salem Web Network") or not...

Regardless of whether it's in-house or not, much like the actual station, the website is about as useful as pimple on my ass.

About 12 event photos. No links to the local hosts. No stream.

But one thing is confirmed--they're still being run out of old Broadcast Park, as the contact page says. (By the way, went by there the other day--they STILL have the ancient WKNR Sports Talk 1220 "swoosh" sign--obscured by brush.)

Oh, and I just tried the domain the emails are attached to.

WKNR.com leads to the site, as does salemcleveland.com.
Edited by Johnny Morgan on 08/16/05 01:36 AM.

What is it they're trying to hide from 7pm-6am that they can't show us on the site? It's been that way forever. Salem doesn't want to brag about their interns and whored out shows?

Of course, I'm still reeling from the loss of Greg Brinda's dining deals!!

And did anyone notice the utter lack of anything with the letters "ESPN" on the site? It's MOST of their 24 hour broadcast day. The only reference is to "ESPN'S Mike and Mike" link at the top. NOTHING about 850 being an affiliate; nothing about the ESPN feed running the station after 9pm; nothing about it being the damn weekend automation.

Oh, the dining deals are still there, just that Brinda doesn't have total control and authority over them. Link's on the front page now, which takes you to...http://wknr-sa.wknrdining.com/

One more thing: No mention of Tribe Talk, Browns Beat, etc. Bob Karlovic, after his promotion, has nary a mention on the site. Ditto sports updates (seeing as how they farm them out).

During the Drennan saga, Action 19 had B-roll of the WKNR/850-studio-and-WHKW/1220-transmitter complex - with the old "WKNR SportsRADIO AM 1220" lighted sign you just mentioned rather prominently. (Look up "cheap" in the encyclopedia...)

I just didn't want to mention it then. No one would have believed me.

BTW, even though WKNR's still at 9446 Broadview, that doesn't mean that Mike Luczak's office is there. He also "programs" (ha!) sattelite-fed WHK/1420 at 4 Summit Park - and probably uses his atrocious imaging duties as an excuse to go to Broadcast Park...

and...

It's a promotion co-held with WHK/1420. Same case with the Ruth's Chris "Steak n' Stogies" Friday night event:

I was expecting neither. But I have found Metro's Matt Loede and Barons' radio voice Jamie Smock - at weol.com.

Good grief, WKNR will probably carry the AHL's Barons again next year - and WKNR has been preventing Matt from scooting to STC.com! Wow.

Oddly enough, I couldn't find the link to the Ohio Center for Broadcasting...considering that the 6 month school is the factory for all sportstalk "talent" at the station, you'd think they would at least provide a link.
