WKNR breaks Lerner Selling Browns Story

Good job from Rizzo and Roda in being the first to break the news on Lerner looking to sell the team.

92.3 the Fan, where are you guys???? Sleeping!!!

Lol-I must admit I was I was listening to 92.3 at the time, I think it might have been Baskin and Phelps, but I did switch over to KNR because they had Grossi on-Rizzo is actually better when breaking news comes in-by the way, is it Hammer's new think to remind us that he is Jewish? He mentioned it twice within the half hour or so I was listening-like it's really a big deal, or something.

Hammer has always dropped little Jewish anecdotes on RBS (like what he does for Christmas and whatnot), and (in his usual over the top manner) always points out when there's some sort of Jewish involvement in sports, especially with the local teams.

I think he's hung up on the Jewish thing because he's always gotta somehow/someway make it (whatever it is) about him.

I don't know whether it's just schtick, or a subliminal thing to put himself over, or what, but it is kind of annoying.

He's mentioned in the past, but they were in the middle of the Browns discussion, and it was like twice-once about building a Synagogue at the Browns facility if he were the owner, and once about if he had a tv show like RIzzo's, he would speak Hebrew if he ever had his own tv show-this was during Rizzo's announcement about his tv show-starting Labor Day weekend Sundays at 11 P.M.-Mike Polk will be on it also-they will also audition for a female co-host, and KNR personalities will be on-I think they are trying to to a tv version of RBS. It will be half an hour.

WTAM had Triv on starting at Noon talking about the Browns for Sale, preempting Rush Limbaugh.

WKNR was talking about it with local callers around 2PM, which is when the last hour of Jim Rome usually airs.

With The Fan in the mix, the sale will be talked about for a while.

KNR was really good today-I would not miss Rome if they dropped him-Grossi was a big pickup for me-I do love the podcasts they have on the website, and it lists the topic-you can listen to the really good segments if you want to skip endless talk about what to do with Colt McCoy.

The Fan? They had the story when Bull/Fox had Howard Eskin on two months ago.

I'm up in NE Ohio for work and being a Browns fan from Columbus I can tell you that I love both 92.3 and WKNR. Unfortunately I can't pick either of them up in Warren/Niles but I listened to both while I was in Akron. I did listen to KNR online all morning yesterday and they did have excellent coverage. As far as the Browns are concerned, I'm a little bit nervous about the sale. I still don't know what to think about Lerner selling the Browns to a minority owner of the Steelers who claims he's 1000% a Squeeler fan.

He was only a "1000% Squeeler fan" because he owned a piece of the team. Haslam is from Tennessee, and is a huge football fan. He wanted to be the main owner of a team, and saw a chance with the Browns to be just that.

Look at it this way...Dan Gilbert was born and raised in Michigan, was a fan of all of their teams, and heavily invested advertising wise in the Pistons.

But when he saw a chance to own an NBA team (especially one with the pre-traitorous LeBron James), he jumped all over it. Once he got settled in here, he's made all kinds of investments in the city (Quicken Loans jobs, a complete renovation of the Q, and the casino), and now owns 4 teams in town (Cavs, Monsters, Gladiators, and the Cavs' D-League team in Canton).

Once Haslam gets here, he'll be a 10,000% fan of the Browns, because they'll be his baby.

He'll be fine...he can't be any worse than Randy Lerner.

It would be the same if Bill Cowher had come here-I know he played for the Browns in the past, but we would have hired someone who was hugging the Rooney's with a Super Bowl trophy in the streets of Pittsburgh, and people here were begging for him-Haslam had no part in the day to day running of the Steelers, and even states on the Steelers website he grew up a Cowboys and Colts fan.

I just hope Heckert stays. I can't take another rebuild again.

I've heard that fomrer Eagles president Joe Banner could be part of the new ownership group. If that's true, then Heckert ain't going anywhere.

I do think Holmgren isn't long for here, however, as Haslem will want his own guy in there.

Hopefully, Haslem doesn't try to be Jerry Jones and have his hand in everything, and hires good people to steer the ship.

As good as WKNR was last week with the Lerner selling the team news, they bombed last night. Multiple tweets from station personalities said OSU FR RB, Briontee (spelling??) Dunn was arrested in Alliance over the weekend. He was stopped by police and given a citation; not arrested. Have to be careful when reporting the news, because WKNR looked foolish last night.

At the end of the day getting stopped and recieving a citation for weed is nothing. WKNR played it up last night like it was ground breaking news.

The rush to be first on a story may have played a part in the inaccuracy department an this citation story. It's happened plenty times before to many news and sport-news organizations.
