WKNR running... the City Club Forum???

Oh, Mr. Luczak's gonna be happy here...

I was scanning the AM dial last Sunday night, and caught what was apparently the tail end of the City Club Forum on WKNR/850 - at the same time as sister station WHK/1420.

Checking again this week, it looks as if WKNR is just piping in the show directly from WHK's carrier signal. They don't even try to disguise it - WHK's disclaimer aired on WKNR. Great job.

The City Club's broadcasts on WHK date back to when it was WCLV/104.9's sister station WRMR/1420. But, IIRC, it really isn't a brokered show as it is a public affairs show.

Could this be a hint of things to come in the Salem camp - like a format swap between 1420 and 850? Hmmm...

You're lucky (I guess...maybe not)--I can't get 1420 or 850 with any reasonable degree of listenability after pattern change.

That's inexcusable, and cheap. But, consider the source.

And WCLV still carries it, as the flagship station, live at 12.30pm every Friday. It's also syndiacted by Seaway Productions...WCLV's syndication arm.

I'm sure WKNR/WHK is using it to fulfill PSA requirements. They should be given credit here--the City Club Forum is a quality program. They could have done a LOT worse.

Calm down, Nate. :)

How many stations air the City Club?

I have caught the forums on 92.3 on Sunday several times just by chance. I've heard it on various other stations as well. Has anybody tried to come up with an official count on how many stations are airing the forums on Sunday mornings?

I've heard it on 92.3 on Sunday mornings....I think its on from 7am-8am. WBWC airs it on Sunday mornings from 9am-10am, in fact for years I was the one who edited it. Add that in with WCLV and WHK and so far that's four.<P ID="signature">______________

WNCX/98.5 - WXRK's direct sister station - also airs the City Club from 7a-8a on Sunday. WCPN/90.3 carries it occasionally, and WBKC/1460 simulcasts WCLV-FM's live broadcast, so that's technically seven radio stations. (You can even add WVIZ/25's also aired the TV version of City Club for eons.)

And on the national scene, WCLV syndicates the City Club via their Seaway Productions. The official list of stations (not including WXRK, WHK and WKNR) is here:

So the final tally is: seven radio stations and one TV station locally, and 162 stations in 38 states.

Re: How many stations air the City Club?

They air it because they are required to fufill PSA time... Yes, it's the same feed from WHK (which is also required to air an hour of PSA stuff), it's connected over ISDN. No, it doesn't have anything to do with anything else.

Except cutting corners by airing the same feed, complete with WHK material, on WKNR.

Yet more evidence of Salem's joke status in this market.

If we include Alliance/Canton...
you could make it eight for NE Ohio.

Last time I was there...
WRMU (91.1 FM)
was airing it Monday night at 7 PM...
followed by a local "Hip/Hop" show.

How's THAT for a segway?
