WKNY 1490 Kingston Signal Question

This is a question for those with some technical knowledge .First I must emphasize that this has nothing whatsoever to do with sunrise or sunset times . This occurs even if sunrise is at 5:00AM and sunset at 8:30 PM or the days are getting shorter like now .WKNY , 1490 Kingston has an unlimited 1KW non- directional signal , with the same constants day and night . They put a decent signal but a bit weak into Poughkeepsie during the day but early in the morning say 7:00 AM I can’t receive them at all . The same goes for the evening . Again sunrise/set times have nothing to do with it . What could cause this ?

There are roughly 130 other stations on 1490, all authorized to operate with 1KW Day and night, non directional.. with a few exceptions.

That amount of stations on the dial makes it alot more crowded on the frequency, raises the noise floor and makes reception hard unless you're very local )5 to 10 miles) form the tower until the sun rises and skip falls out of play.

I live 5 miles West of the WKNY transmitter (in Port Ewen). For at least a year, I've noticed that their reception between sunset and sunrise is very poor. During the daytime, they're 5 by 5. I always assumed they reduced their gain at night.

Nope, they remain at full power 24/7.. and if you read my response above, I explained the situation.
