WKNY Dumps CBS Hourly Newscasts

Anyone heard the news, I listened to WKNY earlier today and I heard that this station is now running an hourly newscast called "ABC News Now", no more CBS hourly newscasts for now. WKNY has been carried an hourly newscasts from CBS News for years including the "Osgood Files", "World News Roundup", "Dave Ross" and a few other CBS News segments. I missed them the most. Like I said, "ABC News Now" is part of the ABC Information Network where it is controlled by Cumulus, and it can be heard on other Cumulus outlets including WKXP, WZAD, WEOK and WALL and two of the non-Cumulus stations including WJGK's "The Fox" and WGNY's "Fox Oldies".

If you want to hear a CBS hourly newscasts that WKNY doesn't carried them anymore, you can either listen to WROW's "Magic 590" in Albany or you can listen to WCBS-AM in NYC, they still got their CBS hourly newscasts. Say goodbye to the TOH CBS newscasts on WKNY.

I always wondered if the clock for the CBS network newscast was a deterrent to affiliation? 3 mins of news, 1 min of spots, 1 min of news, 1 min of spot = 6 min. For those who use syndicated programming that starts at 6 or 7 min. after the hour, many would like the first 2 min. of national news instead of 3 so they have time enough for local news, sports, weather and spots? Any thoughts on this?

Stations don’t have to take the final minute of the news and they can run the second spot else ware in the hour, thus they still have three minutes. I like CBS news and listened to it on WKNY because WCBS news radio 88 usually does not carry the final minute of news. I always wondered why they did that as an all-news station. WROW only carries the first 3 minutes as well. I assume Cumulus owned WKNY made this switch last month as Disney noted they now also own ABCradio.
