WKNY to celebrate 75th Anniversary

Tuesday the 16th WKNY is doing a special live evening show to celebrate their 75th Anniversary. First went on the air on Dec. 16th, 1939 and still on the air without ever having been interrupted or had a major format change. They're rarely ever actually on live programming at night but are bringing back dozens of former station personalities for a live special starting at 7 PM that night.

Should be fun for anyone who remembers listening to KNY over the years considering the amount of former on-air staff that will be there....

Although most of the staff is now gone, it is great that WKNY has continued broadcasting like a local station, that several big owners have been unable to mess up. It is to bad they are doing the celebration at night. Their 'graveyard' signal does not travel far at night. I won't be able to listen to it at my home in Hyde Park.

The significance of the night show is to be able to broadcast at the exact 75th anniversary to the minute...they first went on the air at 8:15 PM back in 1939.....it will also be streaming live online for anyone outside of the radiowaves

I remembr listening to Kingston Radio in 1974 on a road trip there. Tuned in 92 WGHQ, 1490 WKNY and 1550 WBAZ Radio was great then! Who are some of the former WKNY DJs that will be on air Tuesday evening ?

I am recording the WKNY's 75th anniversary special with just the people who used to work at WKNY for years. According to MHVRadioFan, I know you can't pick up the station because it had a terrible signal when it reached Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park as well as New Paltz. Here in Kingston where I lived, I picked up WKNY and it's not that bad for the 75th anniversary show, and it's a great idea to record this memorable, but I'm recording it over the air, but it will sound decent on AM especially in night spot where you can't received it, the transmitter site is about nearly a mile and a half away from home. When we drove to work this morning, right by Albany Ave. there is a transmitter site for WKNY right by the church. I'm recording this show right now, right after it's over, I will be posting it soon right before I'm going to Florida on vacation.
