WKOE 106.7

I don't get it. WKOE professes that it is a country station. The morning show they will caryy "John Boy and Bill" features clasic rock muic, not country. Am I mising the logic here?
BTW at 9:01 this morning they hit the buffer ID and went into a
commercial stop set, back to music at 9:05 So much for the theory of filling the firsdt and last five minutes of any quarter with "non tune out" programming.
Perhaps it won't matter in the people meter world.
Good luck to 'em.

I also heard a spot/ promo that said something like "tell them you heard it on the Q"...

Again, someone dropped the ball when deleting the old station stuff.

I never heard of "John Boy and Bill" but someone told me it was a
"fill in the blanks" type show where YOU play the music - so it can
be anything you want it to be. Kinda like "Bob and Sherri" was on
the old dance formatted 99.3 The Buzz. The board op played all of the
music in the studio.

They're doing nothing new or interesting here. Does anyone really think they're going to make a dent in Cat's ratings? At least CHR served a little bit of a purpose since there was no standard CHR in market until Buzz flipped to Kiss, and WDOX could have provided Modern Rock to an area where WJSE puts out a very poor signal. Another ill-advised move on the part of Coastal. I see ratings remaining stagnant over what Q was getting, or even falling a little bit. I was right on the money with Q, and time will prove me correct here as well.

I assume a lot of the programming will be sat fed, perhaps with a service from ABC (which Coastal loves). I am not sure of the current/recurrent to classics is on Cat Country, but I am going to assume the bulk of the library is New Country (a la WXTU/Philly). If they counter with ABC'S "Real Country", they may make more of an impact than one would think. Another thing up for debate is whether or not WPUR was allowed to capitalize on the death of WSNJ-FM. Sure, WKOE has an uphill battle, but if they can counter-balance (ie play more classics than) 107.3, they might be able to stay afloat for a while. If they just pull a Now/B101, then they will lose and we're looking at a new format for 106.7 somewhere down the road, perhaps not until 2011. To Coatal's credit, the lifespan of any failing format/imaging seems to be 3 years.

Who says that the station has to compete with Cat Country? They seem to mention establishments in north wildwood, Swainton, and Cape May. I don't often hear those places mentioned on Cat Country. Maybe folks in the southern part of NJ enjoy country music. Maybe it's just a logical choice based on the fact that Froggy 99 and Cat Country 105.9 do well in Cape May. One being a Maryland station and one being from Delaware. Pretty good choice I think.

Sounds like Coastal is naming all of their stations after themselves. First, 98.7 The Coast, now 106.7 Coast Country. Guess we'll see 94.3 Coastal Oldies soon. lol

Coast Classics 94-Three?

Coast Classics 94-Three?

They took a shot at Classic Rock about 7 years ago. It was called K-Rock and started to get some traction when they dropped the Classic format for Doo-Wop oldies. After going from 18th to 5th in the target demo, the braintrust blew it up and flipped the format AND frequency. Paul Sackalowski (sp?) was there for a brief stint, then ran screaming in frustration. Soon the ratings plummeted and The coastal group was back at the bottom where they feel most comfortable.

To touch on the John Boy and Billy Big show, they are a Classic rock targeted format. Nascar, Barbeque sauce and Classic rock was the content of their introduction packages sent to potential clients. You can make them fit a country format BUT classic/country clashes are sure to happen.

Trust me, I LOVED K-Rock!!!!! That being said, they did need to move The Coast to the stronger 98.7 signal, that is their cash cow. I only said "Coast Classics" since the term "Oldies" seems to have a negative connotation anymore, plus its a way to work in a Coastal reference to the positioning. I keep hoping for some sort of K-Rock rebirth on 106.7, or elsewhere, someday.

Acutally didn't another company own 98.7 when it was WWZK "K-Rock"??....I thought WCZT moved to 98.7 after Coastal took it over.

It may have been under an LMA, but Marc Scott didn't run it,
Coastal did.

Funny the things in your career that stand out... The Coast crew lma'd the 98.7 frequency, ran it into the ground then packed everything up and went on to devote there bad ideas to what is now the coastal group. WZXL's Gm, Art Camilolo grab the lma from Mark Scott, (who still slept there from time to time) and had Molly McLane and Howard Parker doing the news and local fills. They told Howard Parker his future in radio was limited and they didn't have a job for him, so Art kept him on for the mornings. NOW Howard Parker is arguably the highest paid voice-over guy in the biz. He is heard on the voice-overs of A&E, HBO and unlimited movie trailers. The COASTS history is littered with bad moves....WWOC, WBNJ, WFNN "fun 98.7, WWZK 98.7 K-Rock...Doo-wop and Now Country. Rockin rob was right, Coastal moved the "the coast" format to 98.7 for better coverage, 94.3's pattern served the commercial fisherman better than the community. Okay...so if you throw enough punches, you WILL hit something. Save your money if your in the market for a South Jersey radio station, i'm sure one will available soon.

I heard the local news report recently that the Dow was down 700 dollars and that an accident victim was taken to Atlantic City Hospital. Way to go, guys...

Is hiding your girlfriends underwear in the "public File" a violation of FCC rules. :p If so the Coastal deal is doomed. When the FCC guys take a peek, they'll find more than community fulfillment. And how can a former copier supply salesman cover a 2.4 million dollar note? ???
