WKPQ Flips to Country

Taylor On Radio Tuesday (October 11) reports 105.3 WKPQ Hornell has flipped from Hot AC to Kickin' Country 105.3. How will this impact the Elmira-Corning market and affect Backyard's WPGI, if at all? The 105.3 website as of 1030 hours 11 Oct 2011 still reflects Hot AC Power 105.3. 'KPQ has a big signal, but does it sufficiently penetrate the E-C market to make a dent? Is Kickin' Country live 'n local or off the bird?

Is WKPQ back up to its full authorized power? I thought I heard they were limping along with 5kw ERP or something, but that may have been a while back.

And how about the impact on director competitor WCKR-FM 92.1 Hornell, which has been Your Country Home for years?

Good points, Roberto. But as you have noted in posts on the Buffalo-Niagara Falls board, revenue from Hornell and Danville make for some slim pickins (ahem... Country metaphor.) The WKPQ website is down for maintenance. Here's the WKPQ contour according to Radio-Locator. Here's the FCC data page.

Wow, just what the Hornall area needs,.. 3 Country Stations! I wonder who will be the first to flip format, WCKR, or WZKZ?

I dont really know how this would affect WCKR or WZKZ but WKPQ siginal does cover both of their areas. Now according to WPGI's and WKPQ signals on radio-locator.com the only area where WPGI could be affected is Corning so really not much. Also this could cut into WOKN's market as well.

Hmmm....This change does fill in a community missing a country station...Bath NY does not receive the Elmira country stations well and WCKR and WZKZ are also not good....WKPQ has a good Bath signal. This gives them an advantage over WCKR and WZKZ. WCKR is well entrenched....I'd say WZKZ is the odd one out. We'll have to see what Bob does?
