WKQC-HD2 is on!

I just noticed today that WKQC-HD2 is on. It's kinda fun hearing these new streams come on the air. It just went off so I guess they were just testing.

So... here come the questions. Sorry for so many at once, but...

What was the format? 60's/70's like it says on HDradio.com? Just music or were there sweepers? Any plans for streaming it? How about the audio quality? I know the oldies HD-2 station in New York sounds pretty crappy in HD - extremely tinny and more annoying to me than satellite radio's nasty compression. It sounds like they either are using poor quality source material or are just not giving enough bandwith to it. The HD-2's parent station, the HD-1, sounds amazing in HD.

I know it's early on in the game to know what the final product will be, but it's nice that it is at least starting to get tested!

Hopefully, 104.7-2 will make for some good listening when I make it down to Charlotte with my HD radio next month. Are there any stations that sound absolutely amazing in HD in the Queen City?

OK, once again, I apologize for the questions, but HD radio is a real interesting concept to follow, and I hope that it does well - but the programming's got to be worth it. So far in New York, it's been OK, but not enough, I think, at this point to really intrigue enough people.

The Classical station WDAV sounds amazing in HD, the FM signal has some noise in it. This really stands out in the quiet passages of Classical music. When the receiver goes into HD all the noise goes away, it's very quiet. I wouldn't think that you would notice but it really makes a difference.

WKKT-HD2 is doing a great Country Classics format. That's probably my favorite at the moment, at least until WBAV gets their Smooth Jazz format going or WKQC-HD2 comes on.

The other stations main an HD2 sound good, as you said some are a bit too compressed.

WKQC-HD2 seemed to be very loud and very bright to me, overly so but they were just testing the day I heard it.

I have seen some of the titles they are adding, I saw mostly '70's but some great stuff I haven't heard anyone play in a long time. I think it will be fun to listen to. That should be the point of HD2, it's new have fun with it.

I don't know if everyone realizes this but to blend seemlessly from analog to digital the stations also delay the analog signal to match the time difference of the digital. All except for WLNK in the transfer from analog to digital there is a large time difference. Their HD is the worst! It's difficult to get a lock on their HD at times and it's not just me, others have said the same thing.

I take back what I said about WLNK. The blend from analog to digital is right on the money now.
