WKRB--The REAL Hit Radio

I must say, the best times for me at Kingsborough's own WKRB was the time spent at the 103.1 frequency. Yes, those who were there know the circumstances on how we became 103.1 and eventually were taken off the air. To have been the Program Director where we were light years ahead of our times with the "time for change mantra", I reflect on 20 years since the death of my old friend and GM, Kid Willy, Bill (Spanky) McFarland. Being the first jock on the air when we resumed at 103.1, being the first group to go around the clock at WKRB for the New Years Extravaganza 12/31/81 - 1/1/82, the morning drive shows (a ZOO before there ever was one) and the jocks all lifelong prized memories. The station was REAL radio. Everyone LOVED what they were doing and the chemstry was once in a lifetime. Guys like Bill, Mitch, Stan, Pat, Jerry, Mike and the gals Lita, Lori, man what a group. To all you guys and gals wherever you may be, slam a pot and kick out a JAMS jingle for old times sake.

Unfortunately, today radio is too robotic, the personality, the heart is gone and sadly kids are not taught that. As my oldest son begins college he is also embarking on Communications. Talkups? Maybe. To only have worked with the 103 KRBers, thank goodness for airchecks.
