WKRI 91.9 Cokesbury on

Yesterday afternoon I noticed that WKRI 91.9 Cokesbury is now on. The signal is better than I would have expected in Spartanburg. It should be pretty good in Greenwood, Laurens, and Clinton. Format is oldies and they are owned by the WRBK folks.

They've been on for at least 3 weeks. It comes in clearly in Simpsonville and Greenville. Not really my kind of oldies, but it's good to see something different on.

So, is WKRI simucasting WRBK/WNBK? I don't hear any acknowledgement of WKRI on WRBK. Also, how many more CPs or aps does Spririt Broadcasting have? I know about WFBK in Fort Mill.

What I heard was very basic automation and generic liners for WKRI. No backselling of the songs and no mention of WRBK or WNBK? Do WRBK and WNBK simulcast? Richburg/Spirit also bought the CP for 88.1 in Enoree.

Yes, WRBK/WNBK simulcast, with a very well done automated presentation with a great jingles package geared to WRBK/90.3. They do a dual ID at the top of the hour. There are lots of PSAs for both the metro Chester and Whitmire areas and underwritng for both areas, along with funeral annoucements at 1 PM. I remember when WNBK came on the air, there was vitually no mention of Whitmire, but as time passed, the station became quite involved in that community.

Barely audible here in the Gaffney/Cowpens area,
but I can hear it ok if I move my Grundig S350 radio around a little bit.

It's completely beat out WRCM, but WSGE wins over 91.9 for the most part here.

Radio-Locator still lists it as being off the air, and I can't get their coverage map yet,
and fccinfo lists the station status as a "CP MOD."

Metro Whitmere... I like that. ;D

WKRI will (or has) apply for a license to cover their CP. Once that goes through, their status will change in Radio-Locator.

WKRI is also heard on 88.7FM. The jingles I've heard are from TM/Century's Classic Oldies package from the early '90's created for WMXJ.

they should run their regular programming til 5pm so offices would not have to switch at 4 when that nut comes on at 4 and his large time poor choice by station put him on at night

WKRI may go against the grain of purely defined formatics, but I really like to listen. A deep, and somewhat wide Consultant free playlist......Hmmmmmmmmm?
Such a concept! It's really Consultants that don't test well!

Other than abusing the FCC laws governing a "non commercial" station by selling ads that are borderline call to action and calling it underwriting and having absolutely no announcer presence other than poor old Pat the station is an interesting change from the other "educational non coms" I've heard even if it is all a big farce to skirt the rules the rest of us have to comply with. Tower site is interesting too. A 20k C3 with a 300 ft. tower putting out a signal comparable to a C1 station. VERY interesting.

So when does HIS RADIO start on these frequencies. And does HIS RADIO sale 94.1fm since 91.9 has bigger coverage. I am sure RTN will get this station within legal limits. They are too professional to let its signal not be legal nor running ads that are commercial.

Whatever it takes to squeeeek-by:

We are talkin'....whatever it takes to squeak-by.....Radio, are we not? A few months ago, I began the Topic: "Payola's Comet". I got few replies, with a few even suggesting that the practice no longer existed. I furthered my point by stating that it was only about 8-or-9 years ago that the FCC Bust Squad, collected millions! Were the groups guilty? Well,....let's just say that they all willingly paid the monster fines, to avoid prosecution. It's about time for that Comet to circle back around.

Today, Non-com stations are doing whatever it takes....just to squeak-by, with the (alleged) Christian formats leading the pack, with own refined form of witchcraft. Transmit/Translate/Trans cooked/Trans straight,....this will all have to be legal, but for what's on the air,...ehhh?

They are gone. Went off Thursday at 7pm. Their 88.9 simulcast in the Lowcountry was also off. They had Presbyterian sports, but lost that this year to Sunny 103.5, losing what was probably their last source of funds.

Sad to see them go

The selection of oldies was sometimes a bit too bubblegum, but there was a great variety and essentially no interruptions other than for weather. It was a nice option to have on the dial. I have nothing against religious-formatted stations (or country-formatted ones), but are there not enough already?
