Just wondering about any history someone could share or what's going on these days at this station. With the town in the shape it's in, I'm kinda surprised WKRO is still on the air.
I used to take calls from Joe Crain in those 'CIL-FM days... Joe is great and went into radio and did my old shift at Rockinradio-101-point-5 when going to SIU... His dad, (Bill the Happy Funeral Director) bought it and ran it for a few years and had fun with the elevated station in the Ullin Bottoms, a few miles north of the levied city of Kay-Row! Bill made Rush look like Al Sharpton.. But, the locals loved his banter on the air, even though most of the town had the other view.. Bill sold WKRO and his funeral home and went to Murphysboro to run a burial property in retirement.. Joe flipped from Radio to TV (Weather dude at channel 20, in Springfield, IL)... Great memories...
I remember driving through there in the mid 50's with my parents on our way to Florida. Station's nighttime signal didn't come in until near the city limits.
