WKRP On CBS/WKRP On VH-1

Any input is appreciated:) I really would like to purchase WKRP(all seasons if possible) on dvd. Is the original music still there?
While I do like watching clips on youtube. And on my vhs tapes. I just want to have all the episodes of the original series on dvd. I'm hoping the long standing controversy with regards to the original music, has been rectified.

Now on the new WKRP on VH-1. The last episode that aired. Involved a 'cliff hanger'. Donovan(the program director) was involved in a plane crash. According to Wikipedia. One episode has never been aired. I'm thinking it is the conclusion to 'the cliff hanger'. Does anyone here know if 'The New WKRP' is available on dvd as well? Thanks!!

Only the first season of the original WKRP is on DVD -- unfortunately, with the music changed and some edited scenes.

And sadly, at this point, we will probably never see the other three seasons of the classic WKRP or the New WKRP on DVD/

Not totally correct..one could buy WKRP all seasons worth on DVD as well as the new WKRP on sites like www.ioffer.com , of course since its not the official release, one does take a chance here such as whether or not the DVD's come with the original music or not.

I know some people don't like to go down this road ( Sitcomsonline is known to ban people from their site if they as much as mention Ioffer on there )..but OTOH for many shows this really is the only to way to see them on DVD .

I agree. WKRP without the original music is like...like peanut butter without jelly!

I haven't bought any of the "gray area" DVD's, nor do I know anybody who has. If anybody on this board did buy them, how is the quality and are the original songs still on? ???

The only shows I had bought that are "gray area" was Alice and Dennis The Menace since I knew they wouldn't be on DVD anytime soon, well that "best of" Alice.

Quality...both weren't that bad at all even though you could tell that there were taped from the TV. Dennis, even more so since unlike Alice the commercials were not only left intact but they had came from FOX 8 Australia.

Had no idea Australia had their own..well FOX.

I know somebody who has the "boots" of the entire KRP series. They are taped off-the-air and if other things follow suit, they aren't the first run version but the 1991 syndicated run. They had started to edit music at this point but nowhere near the hatchet job of the current DVD release.

This series would not be the same without Mr. Carlson asking Johnny about the Dogs (Pink Floyd) or Les getting ready for his date with Jennifer along side Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" amongst other noteworthy scenes. The series without the original music is just a big let down for me, which is why I would rather watch cloudy VHS recordings instead of newly mastered DVDs with a hack job of fake sound-alikes for songs and replacement dialogue.

"The New WKRP" was, in a word, forgettable. The only memorable episode was when they had a talk show host named Lash Rambo (sound familiar, dittoheads?) on the station.

Word on the street is that one "grey area" (18 DVD) set is sourced from EP VHS recordings of WGN's mid-80's syndication run. The music is intact, but the episodes are edited for time (missing 2-3 minutes) from their CBS run. The quality is strictly EP VHS, with occasional video and audio tracking errors.

The most recent syndication run (WGN and AmericanLife) had music edits, but not as many as the DVD. For example, the most recently broadcast version of "Turkey's Away" (a couple years back) still had the Pink Floyd scene intact, though the DVD does not.

Did you get that from Johnny, the omniscient shoe shine boy? ;) (Sorry, I just watched my "Police Squad!" DVD, in memory of Leslie Nielsen...)

And did you choose your R-I name as a "WKRP" reference? "Round at the free end!"

Seriously, forgive the humor here... I was wondering that. I saw that on WGN, and wondered how they'd gotten away with keeping the Pink Floyd scene!

Would you believe the "Turkey's Away" incident actually occurred. Posted elsewhere on the board is a story about Don Martin from Salem, Indiana's WSLM. Fortunately duck decoys were used. No turkeys were harmed!

Enjoy!
