WKRP "Turkey Drop": The New Thanksgiving Tradition!

Forget Alice's Restaurant and Detroit Lions football, I hereby proclaim a new Thanksgiving tradition: one cable network airing the Thanksgiving episode of "WKRP"! Maybe a whole cluster of stations can do it, kinda how "It's A Wonderful Life" appeared on 18 networks back in the day...

Anyway, you'd think TV Land would jump on the idea - oh yeah, that's right, they're probably going to be too busy running a movie marathon on that day...

By the way, I did check, and no networks - not even on DirecTV - are airing "WKRP" in the near future:

And I thought WGN was airing old episodes of "WKRP" on weekends. I guess they dumped them in favor of "ALF" - which anyone can watch anytime on YouTube...

Anyway, as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!

"There seems to be something dropped from the heilcopter. The parachute isn't opening...Oh look there's another and another....OH MY GOD THEY'RE TURKEYS!!!!"

Hilarious episode. Simply a Classic in it's own right! I had heard that this particular episode was based on a true story.

I noticed in syndication, maybe for more commercial time, they cut out the very last sentence from Mr. Carlsen. After he proclaims that 'As God as his witness, he thought turkeys could fly."

He pauses and says, "They have wings, don't they!!??"

"The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement!!"

Classic.

"With God as my witness..... I thought turkeys could fly"

The funniest thing about that to me, in the late 1970s I worked at a small radio station, with a "bigger than life" GM but every time he actually started doing something in the day to day operation of the station or in any promotion, he'd screw it all up and the rest of us would have to jump in and save the situation. The WKRP Thanksgiving episode struck close to home.

Still funny.

I managed to tape Turkeys Away a couple of years back when it was on ALN, and it was also on WGN America last year. Unfortunately it's gone this year from both networks. :-\ I listened to it today on a download. It's hilarious that way as well.

Well, you certainly can watch ALF on hulu.com. However you can also watch WKRP in Cincinnati on there too.

I didn't realize how much classic stuff Hulu had, even "ALF" (I figured that was exclusive to YouTube). I honestly thought that Hulu was so concentrated on current programs, that I never thought to look there in the first place.

You made my day, Irishfl - and a lot of people here as well, I'm sure... thanks!
