WKRP

I recently bought a great book on WKRP, which includes an episode guide, from Amazon called "America's Favorite Radio Station" by Michael B. Kassel. Good read...and not bad for fifteen bucks. It also includes an episode guide. Interviews included with several cast members. BTW, in the pilot, look at the poster of 'KRP's coverage area. It says 50,000 watts(Johnny Fever AKA Howard Hesseman says it later in the episode during 'KRP's format change), but in subsequent episodes, it says 5,000 watts. Also, 'KRP was based loosely on Atlanta's WQXI AKA "Quixy", where series creator Hugh Wilson worked in sales. It wasn't based on any Cincinnati station that I know of. This was a darned awesome show...Too bad CBS killed it and moved it all over the place timeslot-wise where no one could find it(It did get scheduled behind MASH for a brief period, where it drew big numbers).

I thought it was based on the movie "FM" with Martin Mull with radio station "QSKY"

Bailey WAS the hottest. I was in the audience when they taped the episode with Hoyt Axton being Jennifer's old boyfriend from back home.

And 1530. I don't know whether that was only in the "new" version, though.

It should have been 550. I heard WKRC one time when I was trying to listen to 550 at sunset.

That would the episode "Della and the Dealer". Great song, "I die for Love". (You got the knife, I got the gun, c'mon baby let's have a lit'l fun)

Does anyone know where I could get a Jennifer Marlowe doorbell that would play "Fly Me To The Moon"?

Eric Rhodes pictorial "Radio's First 75 Years" included a side by side picture of WQXI Atlanta long time General Manager Gerald Bloom and Gordon Jump, the resemblance is amazing.

There was a flashback episode where most of the scenes from the first episode were redone since the actress who portrayed Mama Carlson in the series was a different actress in the first episode. This even included a redone format change scene where Hessman’s enthusiasm wasn’t the same as the original, plus it was no longer a “50,000 watt intensive care unit”, the reshot scene had it as a "5,000 watts intensive care unit".

The first actress who played Mama Carlson died. The 2nd Mama was much better, in my opinion.

Hirsch!

The actress that played Momma (Lillian) Carlson in the "'KRP" pilot was Sylvia Sidney. She passed away a couple years ago I believe. In all other episodes, she was played by Carol Bruce, who, in my opinion, fit the role better(Her scenes with her butler Hirsch, since someone mentioned them, were hilarious). The episode where they re-did the pilot was Episode 87, entitled "The Creation of Venus", which explained how Andy hired Venus and came up with the name "Venus Flytrap"(Venus' character's real name was Gordon Sims). I also noticed how Johnny was less enthusiastic in the station flip scene in episode 87, where the station was called "Your 5,000 watt intensive care unit babies!" Also of note, this hilarious episode was directed by the late Gordon Jump AKA Arthur Carlson.

Watching it in my teen years I would still tell everyone around me"That's too fake, he's not wearing any headphones" & "how is that cart lasting so long" & "you never see 'em cue up a record ...they just put the needle down right in the perfect spot"...I do remember an episode where everyone was in the studio, Johnny was at the board & Les was listening in cue to someone, because Johnny cranked it up & blew Les away. Forget which episode that was...plus the serious episode after the Who tramplings in Cinci.
