WKTI falls into the "Lake"

At 12:15 today, after fading out the top 40 of WKTI, Milwaukee's 94.5 played Hello, Goodbye by the Beatles. That song over, GM Steve Wexler announced a new format never before heard in Milwaukee. "94.5 Lake FM". "What WILL we play next?" The announcement was followed by Beginnings by Chicago.

It was shown live of WTMJ-TVs (CH 4) noon newscast. As soon as I saw the live shot, I tuned in on the radio. Both WTMJ-TV & WKTI are owned by Journal Communications, in addition to WTMJ-AM 620.

Lake FM's format seems to be similar to stations like Jack FM & Bob FM...With songs like:

Jumpin' Jack Flash/The Beatles
Dance the Night Away/Van Halen
Jet Airliner/Steve Miller Band
Soak Up the Sun/unknown Artist
The Cover of the Rolling Stone/Dr. Hook
Photograph/Nickelback
So Alive/Love & Rockets

Just though you've like to know.

Sheryl Crow.

It's an interesting station, I'll say that. Not sure if I like it or not, but it's definitely interesting.

I am surprised because much of this music is saturated in Milwaukee with stations such as WKLH and WRIT and the BREW to some degree. It seems too crowded of an arena to enter.

There was a rather long period of time when there was no mainstream/soft AC in Milwaukee after LITE became the BREW. That's exactly when WKTI should have evolved to AC. They could have kept the brand and heritage and slowly evolved. My guess is they would be a success today with women 25-54, especially 35-54.

The format change, OK, whatever, but who picked the lousy call letters? (WLWK?)

Can we go back to 1974- "Nonstop Stereo Rock on I-94, WKTI MIlwaukee" ?

I guess not.

Just what the world needs...another iPod with an antenna. What we have here is a massive failure of imagination.
How many people have lost their jobs?

The whole on-air staff is gone; Tim Cuprisin reported that the station will run jock-free through at least the end of 2008.

Milwaukee voters just passed a referendum that requires companies to give 9 paid sick days a year to part time employees. Liberals just don't understand economics.

I'm wondering if this branding will even stay, because Cleveland's WLKN has had "The Lake" branding for five years and it bleeds into the northern part of the Milwaukee market.

I thank you for the help with Sheryl Crow & correcting my obvious oversight on The Rolling Stones. Much appreciated.

I have fond memories of I-94. A song I remember them playing in heavy rotation in 1974 was "Hooked On A Feeling" by Blue Swede. It seemed everytime I listened to that station I heard that songs opening "Ooga Chuga Ooga Chuga". I remember how good it sounded in stereo.

Maybe the LAKE could play that song? There would be something kind of cosmic about that.

I wasn't any fan of the most recent version of KTI, but "The Lake" is worse! Everyone enjoy listening to it in the dentist office! ::)

Any time jobs are lost, it's a sad thing. But sometimes we have control over our own destiny. For example, on Nov. 4th Milwaukee voters passed a referrendum which requires employers to give 9 sick days a year to part time employees. Simple economics tells us that employers have to make up that expense somewhere.

I'm disappointed in this station for several reasons. They never took my opinions or suggestions seriously so naturally it failed as a hot AC. They never took the idea of playing more music in the mornings or went back to the 18 songs in a row thing. The stupid marketing director named Ms. Lisa Letterman never hired me as an intern so of course didn't get ANY radio experience. And of course never even got the WKTI soccer jersey the interns wore that I wanted so badly. I had asked several times with no such luck of getting one. The station is so dumb and still is today. There is already a Lake in nearby Sheboygan and Lake Geneva markets and until recently there was one in Madison. They think they own Lake Michigan or something - how come there's no stations on the other side named Lake then? It really is dumb to have an adult hits station when like 95.7 or 99.1 could have gone the route. Radio just got worse than it already was here in Milwaukee.

I think everyone should take a listen to WCXL Beach 104 at www.beach104.com streaming from Kill Devil Hills, NC. That's a hot AC that knows what it's doing - not some dumb station like KTI playing overplayed song after overplayed song. Everyone I am sure is sick of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." And the new format is indeed adult hits (can't believe some peeps here are so dense [no offense meant] to have not heard of it yet). If anyone else heard as many stations that I have you'd all be thinking differently. Dumb KTI wouldn't even sell me a soccer jersey or even a lanyard! What a gyp! Glad it's gone - I don't want a radio station that won't give or sell it's memorabilia! Rip-off!!

Criminelle, icy cool. Just go to the front desk on Monday and ask for a KTI shirt. I am sure they have plenty that they have no use for anymore.

Don't be bitter all weekend? OK?

They don't have squat. I'm not going there. I am so disgusted! Thousands of Milwaukee radio listeners they interviewed and didn't include me! They are SO STUPID!

Hardly any radio discussions on this board unlike Kentucky - no wonder no one knows what adult hits is! The entire Milwaukee radio market needs to change. It needs serious help. I mean come on - 5 stations playing the same music? Uggh!!
