is this true about WKTU becoming the NEW Oldies station of NYC? Does anyone know the ratings for the 1st couple of WABC 77 Saturday Night Oldies shows?

WKTU will not be going Oldies. It would be a very dumb move on CC's part.
______________

KTU's ratings are higher than the competitions especially in target demos and they've got the money demos that corporate wants, why give that up for oldies?
______________

We will not have any data on a weekend daypart until April of 2006 when the Winter book comes out.

The first shows were at the end or after the Fall book ended, so nothing conclusive can be made of the data until late April.

Arbitrends do not include weekend dayparts.

Re: WKTU-Weekends

Weekends need work - especially their part-time and fill in air talent. They've got some jock working there who sounds like he's 12 and still undecided about his sexual orientation.

Re: WKTU-Weekends

Not only that, they have way too much Mixing shows on the air now. They need to cut back on that stuff it can be very annoying. If they can't find a live dj to do a regular music show sat nights then they should just voicetrack one or automate the show. It's simple for doing that with computers today. Another thing they should eliminate is that best of baltazar and goumba johnny stuff, there's no point in that unless the both of them were out for a week and the fill in during their show 5:30am-9am wanted to play some highlights of their show otherwise it's completly pointless. If KTU remains with their current format this year, they need to fix these problems. One time i read something that Skyy was leaving KTU for Sirius Satalite Radio i don't know if he did yet.

What???!!! Thats the best part of KTU's whole existence is its mixshows.

Re: WKTU, give it up!

KTU should just give it up already and leave that classic dance thing to MIX which does a better job of it anyway.
Today in a deli that had KTU on I heard they were counting down their top played songs of 2005. They had "Too turned on" playing by Alicia...not exactly a song made in 2005 but nonetheless their counting it down as if it were just because they played it alot this year!
Now is that their choice to spin it so much in 2005 or by request...?
Hmmm, what do you think?
What a sappy station!

Neither. It was probbly determined by asking the listeners directly via cll out, music tests and other methods.

Skyy left KTU for XM.

If it was up to me it would be mmix 24-7. It is the only way I like Dance.

Their weekenders have always been bad. I've had visitors listen on a Sunday and they would laugh and ask whether we were really listening to a New York City station.

I heard the weekend too and the DJs were explaining that the songs were in fact THE 103 MOST PLAYED ON KTU in 2005. Not a difficult concept to grasp.

Bud.

I'm agreeing with David on that. They keep tabs on requests, burn lists of songs, etc. in order to determine what 'KTU felt was the most played in 2005..not necessarily songs on the list that were created IN 2005 (I do see where you are coming from Jeffrey..just playing devils advocate).

There are a couple of things that dance fans can do if 'KTU doesn't satisfy...it's not like we're stuck in 1995 where the ONLY thing around for music was radio and record stores. You can listen to the Internet streams that respect dance music. Load up your digital MP3 player (iPod, Creative, etc.) and grab countdowns from Europe to see what is going on...and download those tunes, legally (disclaimer). Purchase satellite radio. But most importantly for those over-the-air stations that DO stream dance on the Internet...support them. And as much as I have been mixed about 'KTU from time to time...support them to the best that you can.

It is actually AMAZING that come next month, 'KTU will have been on the air for 10 YEARS! That's longer than the dance runs of original 'KTU and Hot 103/97 COMBINED!

....and I do understand that but just think it's a bit hoaky to do a count down of that sort.
That being said, I suppose it would be a loss to dance fans if KTU were no more even if their format is rather bland.
KTU bills well and has steady numbers and is undoubtedly the most successful "dance station", if you can call it that, in the country.
______________

They've always played dance music from all eras and its worked well enough for the steady numbers and corporate billing thats kept them on the air ten years... all the other stations out there seem to come and go!
______________

It has to do with the market. Boston's Star 93.7 (WQSX), I thought, was a much more bland version of a 'KTU. It was a station where I felt "fortunate" to have a 'KTU since it felt something was missing. I don't know Boston's dance music heritage (though I would have thought it was similar..but on a smaller scale, than NYC) The ratings weren't good enough to justify it's existence (they have since flipped to "Mike"). Yet 'KTU, through it's decent and bad managed to stay there.
