The 1975 Vane Jones guide list a WKVE 820 (250-d) for Bowling Green. The internet has nothing about the station, any info here?

The operated it as a 2 tower pear-shaped DA, with the larger part of the lobe directed over Warren County. They owned the station and programmed it as an AC until late 1980/early 1981 when they sold it to Rick Dubose. Rick owned and operated the station, eventually programming country, until he sold it to me and my family in 1984.
We changed the call letters to WSMJ and reintroduced the AC format.. With the help of Chuck Anderson and his incredible engineering skills, we were able to upgrade the station to 500 watts, 24 hour, non-directional. Still not a "flame thrower", but much improved coverage at 800khz. We operated it until we sold it in 1987 to John Murray and a group of local backers.
John changed the format to a mix of big band/jazz in an effort to give it a unique position in the market place..but those were very tough times (pre-talk) for AM stations. Depsite various efforts to hold on, the station ultimately went dark. I believe that was in late 1989.
I worked at that station for a number of years...beginning in 1979 as a part-timer. I worked for Chuck, Barry and Rick and loved that property. The four of us remain great friends to this day. If technology had been then what it is now, I'm sure all of us would have found the effort less stressful and more profitable.
The towers are now gone, the mobile-home studio has been removed and you can hardly tell the station ever existed. I wish it was still around and on-the-air.
Hope this helps and provides a better history for those interested.
