Tests will include morse code and voice IDs, special music and sweep tones.

Please also remember that the time change occurs TOMORROW Night.

Reception reports may be sent to starstation[at]bellsouth[dot]net which will be acknowledged with an eQSL or snail mail reports which will be acknowledged with a traditional QSL card.

P.O. Box 3965,
Eatonton, GA
31024-3965

During the test, phone calls will also be accepted at 706-485-8792. Special thanks to Chief Engineer Craig Baker for making this test possible. And also to Jim Pogue for lighting the first spark.

Good luck! And if you sleep through the test, well, tough!

Thanks Craig and Jim!!!

So who heard them??

I tried to record them, but the co-channel interference, especially from 37kW KMPC Los Angeles, CA (only 116 miles away), was dominating the channel. I think I may have heard a DMTF morse tone or two cut through the interference, though, but not enough to even hear an entire character in morse. Any chance someone could listen to my audio clip and tell me if there's any tones in there?

Heard very well here. Though I'm in the Nashville area, not all that far away. (will have to admit ignorance as to where in Georgia Eatonton is) http://www.w9wi.com/audio/WKVQ-DX-Test-2011-03-10.mp3 .

I'm afraid I don't hear anything that sounds like the test in your recording. The music in the background is the wrong genre & I'm not hearing any Morse.

Well, I don't expect the music to be the same - that's a Mexican station in the Mountain time zone (I heard the Mexican National Anthem at around 11pm Pacific time) in the background.  If I did hear anything from WKVQ, it would have been well underneath everything else.

I think I may hear a hint of tones in my recording at 0:03, another tone at 0:08, two tones at 0:21, and maybe 1 or 2 more at 0:39.  I'm never able to hear enough to even make out one letter of morse, but is there any trace of maybe a single dit or dah at those times?

If anyone wants, I could convert and upload the entire recordings from both test session times. Maybe someone might be able to pick out something that I may have missed?

My location, last night was about 50 miles due west of Orlando and from 2 - 2:30 AM (e.s.t.) I was hearing Christmas music on 1540 and then the morse code between Christmas songs.

drt,
st. pete (usually)

Heard very well here. About 50/50 with KXEL/Waterloo with several WKVQ mentions and Christmas music. 602 miles away from my location in Coldwater, MI.

Eatonton is kinda in the middle of nowhere. Maybe an hour or two southeast of Atlanta.
