WKXL/1450 Concord, NH No Longer D&M Affiliate

Judging from their website schedule, WKXL/1450 is apparently no longer carrying Westwood One's Don & Mike Show:

http://www.wkxl1450.com/dynamickxl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=32&Itemid=65

WKXL may be the only station in America going from classical music (evenings) directly into Fox Sports Radio (overnights)!

Oh, and the "listen live" link for D&M affiliate "The Edge 1400" in the Altoona market is broken, though I don't know if that's temporary or permanent. From a quick look at their website...it seems like they only intend now to stream their local programming.

The WWGE website indicates local programming is available for streaming. The implication is that it doesn't stream national shows, but it never outright says that:

Click to listen during these programs
Listen Live To The Riverhawks
Listen Live To Leo Stanek

However, I just tried it and they're playing Imus. The station's feed sometimes gets filled up in the afternoon, unless WW1 dropped the hammer on them streaming Don & Mike (but then why would Imus stream with no problem?) Some people have found out about the streaming via the site, so it might've become filled up that way. I get to listen to D&M on my drive home from work (on days when I don't work past 7 PM, which is most of the time), so I usually don't need to use the stream. A friend of mine in Atlanta is a longtime D&M fan, so I pointed her toward the link awhile back and I know at that point it worked fine. Either way, D&M should have their own official streaming up and going soon, which should alleviate the problem.
______________

Right. :) Whenever that is...the Infinity powers that be apparently told them to stop talking about it until it happens. D&M said they were actually installing equipment for it a while back, so it'll happen, just a matter of when.

As far as WWGE's stream goes...I'm wondering if WW1 asked them to stop, but they just don't have the staff or software to keep track of it? Anyway, it's still broken right now (the same way it was last time I checked, bringing up a text file!), but I don't know if it's on purpose or just overwhelmed. Or maybe it's a configuration problem on my end with .pls files.

I believe WWGE is run by the same folks who run the Pittsburgh market "Edge 1550", and their stream went away entirely some time ago. Of course, their programming is primarily WW1 talk, aside from a midday local show between the G-Man and D&M, and on weekends.

I didn't think WW1 looked fondly on streaming it's hot talk shows (even O'Reilly has been banned on some station sites). Leykis has mentioned long ago that he personally wouldn't pay to stream to "a bunch of poindexters sitting around at their computers", but wouldn't mind if stations did themselves.

However, it seems interesting that up until the Buzz in Seattle starting streaming recently, the only stations serving up Leykis (and perhaps D&M) were WWGE and WURP, both tiny half-lung stations with headlight-wattage nighttime signals. You could argue that they are too small and/or inept to follow such a no streaming mandate from WW1, or that they figured they were such a blip on the radar that no one would ever find out they were doing it.

I heard a clip from Don & Mike when a caller from Salt Lake City (which at that point had just lost D&M) said that he listened to the show over the internet via the Pittsburgh affiliate. D&M got pissed at the guy and told him to treat it like Fight Club (the first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club), meaning know about it, but don't tip off WW1 & Infinity on-air.

WWGE has been interesting with their feed; at one point I recall the station having the stream up but not having the link on their site for it (I had it on RadioHotTalk.com though).
______________

And oddly enough, if I remember right, the Salt Lake City affiliate (KALL/700 I believe) was also streaming the show at one point, maybe right up until they stopped carrying it!

As far as the "headlight-wattage" stations in PA that KJCB mentioned (WURP/Pittsburgh market and WWGE/Altoona market)... I believe they are both operated by the same people, a group known as "RadioWerks". They actually own the Altoona-area station (licensed to Loretto), and have an LMA to operate WURP (licensed to Braddock).

The owners of WURP? Inner City Broadcasting, which apparently believes it's futile to compete with urban radio's Sheridan Broadcasting on their home turf with a 1000 watt day/4 watt night signal. ICBC, of course, owns big market urban stations like WBLS in NYC, and is also the owner of Air America-LMA'ed libtalker WLIB in that same market.

Anyway, as noted, Infinity is loosening its anti-streaming stance. Since they're streaming D&M out of home base WJFK, I doubt they'll lose sleep over WWGE or WURP streaming it these days. And they don't seem to care about KQBZ streaming Leykis, who was once on the verboten list.
