WKXY ON-AIR IN CLEVELAND

WKXY-FM 92.1, which was granted a city-of-license change from Clarksdale to Merigold is now on-air in Cleveland with the new facilities - 6kw at 100m from the old WZYQ-FM tower near Mound Bayou. For now, it's "the Delta's official Chistmas station" with all-Christmas music. The permanent format will be "unwrapped" at Noon on Christmas Day. www.kix921.com

Larry Fuss’ new Mississippi sign-on starts life as “The Delta’s Christmas station.” Larry sold his Cleveland, MS-area stations in 2003 and says years later “We saw a void…just as we saw a void in 1992, so we decided to start a new station that the community can be proud of.” That’s WKXY at 92.1, licensed to Clarksdale (500 watts at 141 feet) and holding a construction permit to move to Merigold, closer to Cleveland, where Fuss will have new studios and offices. Merigold will have the full Class A maximum of 6-kw at 328 feet – and starting at noon Christmas day, a new format.

Stunting with 24-hours of "pop culture icons born in Leland"... Johnny Winter followed by Hamilton Joe Frank and Reynolds followed by Kermit the Frog and on and on...

Are the station's stuido/offices still in C'Dale or did/will they make a moved south down Hwy. 61?
They are in Cleveland.

I'm not going with the idea Country is what will be on 92.1 FM.

The website, kix921.com is too obvious and too much of a giveaway.. Larry is smarter then that. I'm betting on it being something we don't expect it to be.

Interesting. Rap is already covered. There are at least a couple of country stations beaming clear into C'land. Do you think FM Talk or sports talk would do good in the C'land market? Least we forget about Cleveland's bread and butter, Delta State. With college kids in town 9 months of the year, perhaps it's fessiable to program a format along a HOT AC line with speciality shows aimed at the campus crowd. All just thoughts.

I take it the stations digs are in the building that housed the Rusell fiasco.

No. That building was siezed by the state for non-payment of property taxes. On top of that, the roof has collapsed. It's a typical Jerry Russell facility. WKXY is in the Valley Court Square office building, which was WDTL's original home in '92.

If I recall correctly, that is the buidling across from the State Bank and Trust on Hwy. 8, yes? When I was student, there was a computer repair business there. The same complex is also home to Schmitty's Barber Shop.

Yep. The computer place is on one side of us and Smitty's is on the other.

Valley Court Square was also WDTL's original home. We were there from '92-'94 before moving to the building on Chrisman.

Hey Larry, heard the station for a bit in Indianola yesterday!

Mom's visiting from out of town and I took her to that Paul Michael place out in Lake Village, AR. She liked the Christmas music but it was unlistenable because it was too LOUD and was clipping like crazy. I'm not complaining, though, because it got me out of having to hear that music so early! :D

I'll check it out, but nobody else has mentioned that. Everybody else who has commented to me said "the processing sounds great."
