Wky and The Spy

I've heard the same rumor, though I'm not sure what to make of it at this point. I could see it happening because 105.3 doesn't have much of a signal and doesn't go anywhere 930 doesn't go. However, Hispanics actually listen to AM less than the average TSL for AM radio.

The word from the inside is they're waiting to get the music back on the hard drive because of the Oxbane Sorbley auditing laws require them to lose all the space on their hard drive so it won't be tied up with music they wouldn't use. So now like a bunch of dumbasses, they are scrambling around trying to get the library loaded up and are having a hard time finding some of the unique titles they had. All this compounded with the surprise visit from head cheese Farid Suleman who threw down the gauntlet and told the idiots to get the station back on the air immediately or else. Even funnier they are rushing to get their website back up for streaming audio.http://www.1053thespy.com

It seems that having 2 AM/FM simulcasts in their cluster is a bit excessive considering 105.3 does not cover anywhere you can't hear 930 during the day, or pretty much at night as well.

Hopefully Citadel will bring the spy back, or some alternative, AAA, or even Americana (with bluegrass on sunday mornings) format to 105.3...

Re: WKY and The Spy

Barring noncompete, what're the odds Barreda might join up with Citadel? Or does he have a chance to return to CC in some capacity? Good grief, he's been there for what, 15 years; he probably doesn't want to go to another market particularly. I'm sure Ferris wouldn't be too keen to have him; but then again, wasn't it Jake Daniels who programmed The Spy when it first came to 105.3 anyway? Actually, I liked what Jake did with it; Ferris' Spy doesn't thrill me all that much. Barreda of course goes all the way back to that late-night alternative show they used to have on KJ in the early 90s...what was it called? I always forget!

Are there any regulations prohibiting them from continuing to simulcast the Mexican stuff on both stations? Could be they like the idea of having it on both. They may feel there are people who'll listen on FM who would not tune in on AM.

The Spy on a better signal might have potential but at 105.3 it's just not going to make any money. That's why they shut it down the first time. When I say "potential" I'm strictly talking billing. I realize a lot of people love the idea of the Spy, but that doesn't mean crap to the bean counters.
