Longtime WKYQ air personality Kent King died Friday (6-13) at his home after suffering a heart attack. He was 51. Kent joined WKYQ in 1975 right after graduating Paducah Tilghman High School. A few short years later he would become the station's program director until stepping down in 1993. He remained in afternoon drive until 1998, when he started doing morning traffic reports on WKYQ and sister station WKYX. One of Kent's lasting legacies to WKYQ was his creation of his weekend show, "The Outlaw Hours", which is still heard on Friday and Saturday nights. Kent received national recognition for this concept. Kent also served as Emergency Management Director for McCracken County. The funeral is scheduled for Monday(6-16) at noon at Westside Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: the American Heart Association, Kentucky Region, 240 Whittington Parkway, Louisville, KY 40222 or to the American Diabetes Association Memorial and Honor Program, PO Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.
Kent hired me in 1987 as a WKYQ part timer. He greatly influenced me and my career. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Gloria and his family.
