WKZE on 99.1

I was flipping through one of the stations that 99.1 is simulcasting WKZE at 98.1. What is going on here?

I guess that this WKZE simulcast on 99.1 is being splattered by WKIP-FM's "News/Talk 99.3". I guess something is wrong with this station. WKZE has been simulcasting on 99.1 for probably about a month or two.

WKZE FM is licensed to SALISBURY CT., with its tower in the Town of North East, near Millerton NY. When Willpower bought WKZE several years ago they moved their offices and studio to Red Hook NY, presumably to focus on serving that portion of northern Duchess County. The problem is WKZE is a rim shot into the area, and the signal is rather weak. Thus the need for the translator to give Red Hook a clear reception. I think it’s wrong that the FCC allows a station to move it’s base of operations and target audience so far from it’s COL. Willpower should have found an open frequency if they wanted to be in Red Hook . I believe WKZE AM/FM was not working out in SALISBURY & Sharon, but they could have tried a format flip and stayed put instead. WKZE -AM was sold to Robin Hood Radio as WHDD and stayed in Sharon.

I first stumbled upon the WKZE 99.1 translator about a year and a half ago, but they were much weaker then. They had a major boost in power sometime earlier this year... definitely more than a month or two ago.

I agree that they have pretty much abondoned Salisbury, and have become a Red Hook / Kingston station with the 250 watt translator. Holding on to the WKZE license allows them to do that, but it just doesn't seem right.

I have a link to a WKZE translator signal pattern which is right here.

According to the coverage area, WKZE's translator at 99.1 (which is W256BI) is being splattered by WKIP-FM at 99.3 which is a "News/Talk" station that did not covered Kingston and even in Poughkeepsie as well. WKZE's translator had a good signal in Kingston, Saugerties and a few other places. A lot of talk listeners in Kingston who couldn't get WKIP-FM at 99.3 because of WKZE's translator being almost covered What a dumb move.
